PSA as we reach the end of Mental Health Awareness Month. This had come up in real life convos several times in that last several months. If your employer asks you to disclose medications you are taking to treat a diagnosed mental health issue you should tell them to pound sand. There are of course exceptions in safety sensitive jobs where certain medications may impact your ability to operate heavy machinery, but for the most part, you cannot be required to disclose.

Alex got me thinking about this as I was walking Sophie this morning. Anyone who knows me well knows that I have an vast capacity for empathy. It’s uncomfortable because even when I want to say “This dude is a prick with anger management issues” I can’t get away from the why. In no way am I seeking to justify his behavior, and since he’s a stranger, I can’t really claim any insight. I also don’t believe that hyper angry men are a new phenomenon, but whatever keeps them fired up seems to be getting a lot of oxygen, and that brings us back to the why.

While I was walking my dog this morning, I was thinking about Bernie. My son is a young gen Z Bernie supporter so I’ve put a lot of thought into my reasons for not supporting Bernie. The common theme for most of my issues with Bernie is that he is an agitator, not a leader. Agitators are not bad. They play a hugely importantly role in all progress, but the things that make one a great leader and the things that make one a great agitator are very different.
