This year I made the mistake of viewing UMich's president, Santa Ono, as simply incompetent or unfit for university leadership. What he revealed in today's interview is far worse: he is a willing participant in Israel's genocide in Gaza and an active threat to academic freedom. Ono and other university presidents view this genocide as business as usual. In their calculation, Israel will continue its destruction of Gaza, apartheid will march on, and the international community will permit Israel to further its 70+ year campaign of ethnic cleansing.
