Takeaways from "Searching for Black Confederates" by @KevinLevin 1. Confed soldiers seem to be constantly surprised when slaves ran away from the Confed. Army. Where are they going? We've taken care of them and then the first chance they get they run off? I can't believe it! 🤣
2. Former slaves played a part in Confed. Army reunions through the 30s and 40s. Mr.'s Perry, Shields and Divinity amongst others, are used as examples in the book. They played the white people of the time to get better treatment, meals and support. Good for them.
