There is a lot to this.
First, as much as Twitter may create the illusion of a cool young activist class, the numbers consistently, every year, every four years, are not there. So if your movement is not registering young adults during off years, you can’t win.
There is no future for a progressive movement that fails to actively recruit younger (often non-permanent) residents.
Which brings me to the other big thing: Doorknocking disproportionately targets homeowners. I have watched Dem orgs struggle to meaningfully talk to renters.

I've seen a few people be like "omg the cops are in on it" and what I can't believe that they still don't get is that
the
cops
are
it
That's what we saw all summer. That's what we've seen for *years*
"oh but it's their training," we heard over and over again as cops on Capitol Hill assaulted peaceful bystanders with enough OC to render long-term effects.
Ok! Fine! I can play that game.
a.) the training is a problem and
b.) a whole lotta the cops are also the problem

One thing I can’t stop thinking about is how much of a privilege it must be to not give a single shit about other people.
Like, people held Zoom christmases and outdoor exchanges in DECEMBER in order to do their part to stop the spread.
Meanwhile, others - many of whom enthusiastically voted for the very lawmakers who are withholding state and local aid - gleefully got together without a care.

I don’t want to be Captain Obvious here but... I’m pretty sure City Hall and a block of Capitol Hill would not have ever been occupied if the Mayor and Chief of Police had just stood down like a week ago.
I know it seems wild but here’s the thing about protests about police brutality: They can’t be gotten rid of with more police brutality.

ok real quick, let's go over political gaslighting because that is a real thing and it's happening a lot!
When an elected official is stalling and does not actually intend to change any laws in any salient way, they will often gaslight the public because, well, it works and it's easier than passing laws.

That white people think the Civl Rights movement was exclusively Rosa Parks sitting politely and MLK being ~peaceful~ is proof that our educational system is rooted in white supremacy. Black history is turned into a Disneyland version for white consumption and comfort.
This morning I was reading James Baldwin's address to teachers in 1963 while also seeing @harikondabolu's extremely good and also disheartening roundup of white men whitesplaining MLK TO HIS OWN SON and this was like, extremely clear.

COVID-19 is showing us how much of conservative ideology is built on the premise that the believer is bulletproof.
This is typically based in the belief that they have God on their side or some other kind of special providence.
They are wealthy because they were born smarter or better or they pray the most.
They are successful because of their own hard work and/or divine assistance.

Hello ok I want to say something any data and public health and a lot of twitter ~experts~ who don’t seem to grasp the basics of conveying information in a responsible way.
First, some ground rules. We must all recognize that:
- A disease with a long incubation period requires a long tail of data. The new cases being reported every day were likely from exposures 7-14 dates ago.

Yesterday I went to the lake to experience some air that didn't come out of my dog's mouth and I ended up talking to an extremely dope old dude (from a safe distance on opposite ends of a long bench).
He kept seeing people he knew (like one lady who was like "hey, I know you from the gym!") and whenever they asked how he was he'd say "best day of my life!"
They all thought he was kidding but low-key I think every day was the best day of this dude's life.

I did not watch KOMO's ~special report~ on homelessness because I used to work at that station & know the preconceived notions a lot of people who work there have about homeless folks.
Also because I don't really need to see a dramatic reenactment of a Safe Seattle thread.
It's a pretty good example, though, of how "unbiased" news media is actually extremely biased. I saw the list of people they talked to and consulted. I can assure you: They are really quite biased.

Listen I am just going to say this and you all can waste your time blowing up my mentions because you didn't change my mind before and you won't change it now, but I guess it makes you feel good:
I don't fucking like Bernie Sanders.
I think his policies all sound dope but I think he's proven himself to be massively ineffectual. Dude's been in Congress for three hundred years and you didn't hear about him until 2016 because he wasn't doing anything.

Heyyyyyyy one more thing re: Seattle's mayor and powerful men who abuse people...
I don't want to hear that you "can't believe it" or "didn't see it coming."
If you think you can spot an abuser in your life, you're wrong.
