Thinking about it some more - it’s not surprising at all the UVA decided to arrest the protesters. But Ryan seems to admit in his letter that it was UVA’s choice to call in the state police. This was a massive escalation that made the situation many magnitudes more dangerous. 🧵
UVA handed things over to what is essentially a military force that proceeded to turn a very dull situation with few people involved that appeared headed towards disbanding in a few days into a very heated series of confrontations involving riot police and a very large crowd.

The @CvillePlans materials for next week's Planning Commission work session are now available. They've gone back to the March FLUM basically, including a 2.5 story height limit for General Residential, which is another way of saying nothing will change. drive.google.com/drive/folders/…

I’ve payed close attention to each city council candidate’s housing platform as I figure out who to vote for. I’ve come to the conclusion the two best candidates are @senaforcville and @MPayneCville. Here’s a thread on why, where I dive into the major candidates positions:

This morning I walked by the new office building going up on Garrett and 2nd, behind the Glass Building. I looked up some of the history of the development. I found a chance for us to quickly go on a trip down “terrible decisions by the city to address housing” lane.
In January 2015, Kuttner presented a plan to the Planning Commission to build a couple hundred fairly affordable micro units on this site, plus some office/retail space, and 271 parking spaces. cvilletomorrow.org/articles/glass…
