As you may have seen, the New York Times just reported that the government decided to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Afghanistan. This would end TPS protections for Afghans on May 20, 2025. Image

More than 9,500 Afghan nationals have been approved for TPS, which authorizes them to work in the United States and protects them from removal. Many of these allies have open SIV applications processing.

(1/7) Last night, President Trump signed multiple executive orders impacting immigration. Of those executive orders, Realigning the United States Refugee Admissions Program is the most likely to directly impact Afghan allies. Image (2/7) Beginning Jan. 27, 2025, this executive order suspends USRAP until the Secretary of Homeland Security determines the program is in the interest of the United States with an initial assessment due in 90 days.
