The term “Only 6 percent” trended widely on Twitter over the weekend as supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory promoted tweets that falsely suggested the CDC had updated its records to show that only 6% of U.S. deaths tied to COVID-19 were legitimate. mprnews.org/story/2020/09/… The CDC data table is based on an analysis of death certificates that mention COVID-19 as a cause. As of Aug. 26, the CDC said, there were 161,332 deaths where COVID-19 was listed on the death certificate.

The May job gain suggests that businesses have quickly been recalling workers as states have reopened their economies. Other evidence has also shown that the job market meltdown triggered by the coronavirus has bottomed out. UPDATE: Once again, the Labor Department acknowledged making errors in how it classified people as employed and said the real May rate is worse than the numbers indicate. The gov't made the same mistakes in April.

Minneapolis — and the Twin Cities area more generally — has some of the most abysmal numbers on racial inequality in the nation. Some stats: (thread)

The median black family in Twin Cities earns $38,178 a year — less than half of the median white family income of $84,459 a year ⬆️This income inequality gap is one of the largest in the nation; only Milwaukee, Wis., is worse.

The state of Minnesota as a whole has the second biggest income inequality gap between blacks and whites in the entire nation; only the District of Columbia is worse.
