Appreciate the mission of educating trainees, but AFFIRM Trial doesn't belong in this list.
➡️Outdated (enrollment ended 1999, before AF ablation was practiced)
➡️Misleading (endpoints didn't capture the reasons we treat AF)
➡️Treatment didn't work well
➡️Treatment was toxic 1/n
End points of stroke, anoxic encephalopathy, major bleeding all relate more to anticoagulation, not rhythm control. Death & cardiac arrest aren't the reason we treat a.fib. What about CHF, Hospitalization, QoL? Plus, the groups weren't that different re AF - drug Rx was poor. 2/n
