1/6 The singer Shaman appeared on stage when I was already imprisoned, so I could neither see nor listen to his music. But I know that he is now Putin's main singer. And he has the most popular song: “I’m Russian". 2/6 Everyone knows it, parodies of it are recorded, and so on. Of course, I was certainly curious to listen, but where in the prison I could do it?

1/13 It's hard to shock any of us in 2024 with injustice and the cruelty of a sentence.

Yet, when I learned about the verdict for Ksenia Fadeeva @ksushaaatom, an MP of the Tomsk City Duma, I was genuinely shocked. 9 years of imprisonment. 2/13 I was sitting in silence and staring at one point for a couple of minutes.

Fadeeva's charges were so absurd that it seemed the authorities themselves were embarrassed.

1/9 I am your new Santa Claus.

Well, I now have a sheepskin coat, an ushanka hat (a fur hat with ear-covering flaps), and soon I will get valenki (a traditional Russian winter footwear). I have grown a beard for the 20 days of my transportation. 2/9 Unfortunately, there are no reindeer, but there are huge fluffy, and very beautiful shepherd dogs.

And the most important thing: I now live above the Arctic Circle. In the village of Kharp on Yamal. The nearest town has the beautiful name of Labytnangi.

Ну а что? У меня есть тулуп, шапка-ушанка, скоро мне дадут валенки, за 20 дней этапа у меня отросла борода. Оленей, правда, нет, но есть огромные пушистые очень красивые овчарки. 2/10 А главное, живу я теперь за полярным кругом. В поселке Харп на Ямале. Ближайший город носит красивое название Лабытнанги.

Я не говорю: “Хо-хо-хо”, но зато говорю: “Ох-ох-ох”, когда смотрю за окно, где сначала ночь, потом вечер, потом снова ночь.

1/9 Prison is the best place to improve your stamina. Here they are constantly trying to annoy you and piss you off in ways that are both sophisticated and so straightforward and stupid that it's sometimes hard not to get angry. 2/9 I told you that I have been trying to go to the dentist for a year and a half. At the new trial, I told both the judge and the prison officials: "Let's solve this issue humanely, stop torturing me, I just need to see a doctor."

Особенный взгляд, полный тоски и боли? Татуировки и тюремная феня? Абсолютно нет. 2/13 Зеков объединяет то, что у большинства из них нет зубов. Плохое питание, отсутствие твердой пищи, много сладкого (самая дешевая еда), много крепкого чая, курение и полное отсутствие стоматологической помощи делают свое дело.

That's what the prison guards mentioned when we took legal action regarding a letter that didn't make it to me. Interestingly, it turned out to be the single letter that the censors officially rejected in almost a year and a half. 2/11 The “burned on an iron plate" phrase became a local meme. If the administration didn't like certain letters, the letters just simply "disappear."

Так заявили мои тюремщики, когда мы судились из-за письма, которое мне не доставили. Это, собственно, было единственное письмо, официально уничтоженное цензурой за почти полтора года. 2/9 “Сожгли на железном блюдце” стало локальном мемом. А с письмами, которые не нравились администрации, поступали проще. Они просто “пропадали”.
