More than a decade ago, a then 80 year old Oxbridge economist and PM worked 14 hours a day non stop for almost a decade-save that one instance when he had to check into a hospital for a heart operation. He was trying to grasp the essence of India and input them in policies(1) He was cursed with the curse of coalition politics in the first five years of his term- the left being the most insufferable of all members of the coalition. Yet, he soldiered on, never losing his cool because he well understood the outcome of a fall of the government (2)

Do one thing sire; go for a medical check up. When did @RahulGandhi “attack” democracy? The ex diplomat that you claim you are, surely you must’ve known that he was speaking and referring to the fascism that’s been validated by people like you? He’s correct: democracy’s dying a slow death in India. Do you find that thought impossible to digest ? Did the milk turn sour in your residence when you were made to face the truth that you’re validating- and supporting- a pogrom initiator- whose job also included- imprisoning an 84 year old Jesuit and seeing to

There’s no morality left : it went long ago, now we’re a “republic” sans morality, sans the rule of law and those who don black robes (minus wigs) pontificate about democracy and the rule of law in conferences and promptly deny bail to those deserving of it . #CJIRamanna The Bhagvad Gita is now being rammed down the throats of those in stds 12 and above in Gujarat. The morality inherent in the Gita is being conveniently sidestepped & overlooked by those pitching for it to be taught in schools. Other religions don’t matter.

You are doing a disservice to the congress by tweeting about this man (Vajpayee) whose assertions ran contrary to his intents- these assertions were just lip service. Soon after the “Raj Dharma” speech, he was seen congratulating Modi in a five star hotel in Bombay during the party’s annual convention. The pained expression he wore on his face during the “Rajdharma”speech had long gone; and he was seen warmly embracing the butcher of Godhra unreservedly and unashamedly. Those who root for Vajpayee and his “gentle and unassuming” ways and his fluency

Lucky to spend time in the company of one of the world’s most brilliant, dedicated and honest leaders in the 21st century: India was lucky to have him at the helm. Despite the jibes of being an “Accidental Prime Minister” by someone who was to serve him but who ended up stabbing him rivalling Judas Iscariot in treachery, the man stands tall and the world is aware of bis work, worth and contributions towards lifting vast swathes of the citizens from poverty, despair, unemployment and misery. Time will heal the wounds caused by the backstabbing & treachery

Every major religion is more than a 1000 years old. There are two aspects : the core essentials- the doctrine- a kernel of truths valid for all time to come- and cultural traditions built around it. Traditions formed and fossilised over a 1000 years are sought to be validated by proponents of that religion, without considering the context in which those traditions are sought to be superimposed. Thus, prayer rites that can’t ever be inserted in a modern, mixed habitat setting, for example a crowed metropolis, are forced on those who are not members of

“Uttered some words”? Really ? A graduate of Hindu College Delhi and also from the London School of Economics, “uttered some words” thoughtlessly? Really ? Her entire moves were scripted, vetted and approved by you-know- who. Nupur is trying to emulate Sadhvi Pragya or whoever. As elections are round the corner, the BJPee does what it’s best at: stoking the fires of hate and division.

Yes. Witness Yashwant Sinha trying to crawl out of his former self - like a snake moulting- and trying to develop a new skin in the process. He thinks public memory is short and that his past can be whitewashed by joining the @AITCofficial . What a joker! We must persist in showing the mirror to these fellows and the myth that Vajpayee was somehow “better” than the rest- must be punctured for all time to come. Waiting for some historian (@ZareerMasani ) to help us with facts on this scoundrel who sowed the seeds of hate in 1977

Yes, but suit has its limitations; it needs to be worn well. Either it’s the body structure or probably the suit, if not stitched well , could end up making the wearer look terrible. Amitabh Bachchan, despite his fame and wealth , comes across poorly in suits- he looks like a scarecrow in them. A suit must be worn well, especially around the neck and shoulders and the arms - they must all be draped as close to the body as possible, without appearing baggy.

One of the consequences of soft pedalling on issues & taking a “user friendly” approach through the dumbing down of academic rigour in school & at university. Those coming from different countries, whether Hispanic or of colour, must match the exceptionally high standards without which any further promotions to the next higher grade must be deemed next to impossible. English must retain its supremacy and any concession of any kind to any other language- to placate the sentiments of the largest “minority” must be done away with. American education is

There is a serious managerial and / or administrative lacuna in the working of the @INCIndia . Those selected as media persons and heading various committees : just how are they selected? What’s the basis for their being appointed to various posts ? Some of them qualify just on the basis is a pretty face. @SupriyaShrinate and @Pawankhera are exceptions. Some kind of past experience of having worked in a professional capacity needs to be a necessary condition before co-opting a person as a functionary(1)

India was never ever able to flex its muscles or achieve anything other than soft power status. It achieved some kind of fame in ‘71 and again when it announced to the world that it was now a nuclear power when it detonated the bomb. It peaked in its attainment of soft power status- it gained respect and admiration from two US Presidents- Bush (Jr) and Obama- because the man at the helm was a highly educated and reputed economist who’d proved his credibility thru policy inputs and decision making that led to

The incidence of rape- especially rapes of minors- are increasing with every passing day. In Jaipur, a minor was raped and killed the next day. Citizens will skirt the question on whether or not the death penalty can become a deterrent. We find bleeding heart liberals pointing out to the fact that notwithstanding the death penalty, rapes do occur. That still does not address the main issue: how do we recompense the victim ? How do we bring closure to rape by assuaging the fears of the victim?

You’re absolutely stupid - LTTE was a killing machine that couldn’t bring itself to stop. Not only did it outmanoeuvre and eliminate rivals - PLOTE -among them- it reneged on every plea that it would surrender arms and come to the negotiating table . It never did that. Ultimately it had to be put down , by the likes of Gen Jerry D’Silva . What a way to end , the treacherous traits coming back to them. Which Father in the world would see his innocent son- a 12 year old- murdered in cold blood- by the SL army ? Yet, there were no regrets.

I feel sorry that you had to wipe tables for a living in Canada- & earn your bread as a martial arts instructor- before your entry into Bollywood and then marrying @mrsfunnybones . The lack of an intellect or perspective in almost every aspect of life in India; is telling indeed. Pontificating in coarse (guttural) tones (or accents) won’t help you “claim” any space in Indian political history. If anything, you would go down to even lower levels than you were at, before you decided to throw in your lot with the BJPEE. Ends.

Nothing surprising: the idea that a secular (read pro- western) concept of government/ democracy is antithetical to the very genius of Indian culture has been successfully woven into the narrative by the BJP, whose parent and guardian happen to be the notorious RSS The educated elite have been brainwashed into believing-just like the woke segments in western society-that a new narrative, based on an altogether new concept of nationhood, built alongside European concepts of a nation state founded on a single religion (Hinduism) is inevitable.

Am seeing people berating the judge, Hari Shankar, for justifying marital rape. The issue is much bigger- that of sub par characters finding their way into the civil services, the armed forces and the judiciary. Think of it, this is the real issue. Unless we try and change the recruitment patterns to upgrade the quality of those recruited at the very process of conducting the examinations, we won’t get any nearer to doing away with the kind fo people we have in all the services mentioned above. Justice MC Chagla exhibited remarkable prescience in his

While Covid-19 ravaged the world without exception, in India, one could attribute the huge number of deaths to the utter callousness by the government headed by Modi in making adequate plans and factoring contingencies as regards shortages in supply of medicines and ventilators. Nowhere else in the world were citizens of a country subjected to the ghastly spectacle of dead bodies being thrown / tossed into a river supposedly held sacred by the majority of those compelled to engage in this act, for want of space and personnel at a cremation ground as in

This government is bankrupt. Where will the money come from? If you were to analyse its achievements since 2014, the only thing it has done is to increase its vote share in its core constituencies (segments) by peddling hate and religious fundamentalism. A growth in GDP requires creation of additional plant capacity to augment existing capacities or add new manufacturing outlets in newer ventures. Not happening. Even in the services sector, one does not find hotels, hospitals or tourism centres working to increase footfalls

@tjoseph0010 No. It was part of a world wide phenomenon-this anti Semitism- which started in Rome- fostered by Popes in ancient times- based on the false and mistaken notion that somehow, the Jews were responsible for the death of Christ on the cross. That they carry the guilt of forbears(1) @tjoseph0010 Anti Semitism was then- and even now- de rigueur for most of Europe including Protestant Europe. British actor Sacha Baron Cohen speaks about anti- Semitic attacks faced by him while at school. It thrives under Labour and Jeremy Corbyn exhibits anti Semitic prejudices openly(3)

@midhatkidwai That Australian expat you’re referring to, has quite a fan following even amongst the supposedly liberal English speaking affluent Muslims, what to speak of others. About time this person’s hypocrisy is called out and shamed.(1) @midhatkidwai While Muslims in general are going through a horrendous time, that does not warrant taking an extremist view, going so far as to call for trashing the constitution or calling for its abnegation (2)
