"I *LOVE* nihilism" @DavidBowieReal with @IggyPop & Rosemary Clooney on Dinah Shore Show (1977)! Biggest takeaway for me from @brettmorgen's great @MoonageMov was how Bowie radically transformed identity & normalized weirdness so quickly. Thanks, Starman! Highly recommend @brettmorgen's @MoonageMov, a brilliant and inspiring meditation on @DavidBowieReal's art and life. What emerges, warts and all, is a seeker who was pushed himself and his audience & society to experiment, grow, and change. moonagedaydream.film

Prediction: Donald Trump will not be GOP candidate '24. In two elections, he received 46% & 47% of vote, and fatally diminished his standing by his actions after losing in 2020. After @GOP takes back House & Senate in midterms, leaders will cut him loose. pbs.twimg.com/media/FIGrionX… For those who say Trump (or his base) gets to decide, consider: The Donald's chokehold on his base is already diminishing, with fans booing him because he revealed he got a booster. His role in facilitating vaccines is abt his biggest selling to public at large, yet... 2/x

Proposition: What we are facing in America is not a pandemic, or economic malaise, or resurgence of inequality, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, or lack of options, food, shelter, you name it. What we are facing is a crisis of meaning or, if not quite a crisis... 1/x of meaning, than a prolonged period in which old institutions, mindsets, temperaments, and habits are just delivering what many or most of us need or want to live positive, meaningful, happy lives. God is dead (and not coming back), there is no national narrative... 2/x

Hey, @RepKenBuck, as neither a swamp-thing or a big-tech bro, I'd like to point out that your legislation is profoundly anti-capitalist and misinformed. Antitrust is not a hedge against big govt, it is typically its purest manifestation. Please read your history. @RepKenBuck For instance, please read Gabriel Kolko's history of the Progressive Era, esp. wrt railroad regulation. reason.com/2014/05/20/gab…

Yes, there is a comparison to be had. Obama was not particularly good on immigration. That doesn't make Trump good--it means we have had three bad immigration presidents in a row. And Biden will make it four. google.com/amp/s/www.pewr… 1/x Note: The thing I hate most about Trump is his anti-immigrant positions. However when you strip away the rhetoric, he is in various ways not so different from recent presidents. For instance, we still see about 1 million green cards issued a year: dhs.gov/immigration-st…
