When I was Tory education adviser pre-2010, the populist cry of “abolish these Mickey Mouse degrees!” came up periodically. Whether from a tabloid newspaper, a bright spark in the policy unit, the leader’s office, or a frontbench spokesperson, this old chestnut would arise. BUT…
When the latest iteration of this “why-oh-why” policy was handed to me from on high to do the boring work of, y’know, checking the facts, there was always a problem:
