Earth’s surface is full of huge curved features. Arcs of sediment, ocean ridges, and tectonic zones. I adapted Meinesz method for predicting shear force trajectories around a specific Euler - in this case, the ECDO 104° along the 31° meridian [figs 1 & 2]. The maps show predicted global shear stresses on Earth’s surface if the planet underwent large-scale reorientation (true polar wander). The model is predictive - generated before comparison to the geology. One of Meinesz' original shear maps, based on a 70° TPW along the 90° meridian is shown in fig 3. [1/7]Image

[2/7] In the southeastern United States, surface clay forms a near-perfect arc with a ~250km radius. The arc crosses multiple geological provinces and rock types, which makes local explanations difficult. Carbonate enrichment (CaCO₃) appears along the same arc, while sand does not. The geometry matches the predicted shear contours almost exactly. When a single, smooth arc cuts cleanly across multiple provinces, with no obvious structural boundary. How does a feature like this maintain a precise geometry unless it reflects a large-scale, organizing stress field?Image

JPL earth orientation data [1] sigma values are showing a notable disruption in the earth's rotation and length of day starting 4 July 2025. This does not appear to be a data error, and it is unprecedented in the ~25 years of satellite data in the same record (analysis below).
[1] eop2-external.jpl.nasa.gov/eop2/latest_eo…Image 25-year polar motion and Grok's analysis of the source data [2]: Based on the analysis of the provided JPL Earth Orientation Parameter 2 (EOP2) file, which contains data up to July 16, 2025, with predictions extending to October 12, 2025, an anomaly is evident in the recent data, particularly over the last few days up to July 16, 2025.

Key Observations:
PMx (Polar Motion X): Shows a steady increase from approximately 127.8870 mas on July 17, 2024, to 186.6847 mas on July 16, 2025. However, the rate of increase accelerates significantly in the last few days, jumping from 184.0079 mas on July 14 to 186.6847 mas on July 16, a change of about 2.6768 mas in two days, which is notably higher than the typical daily increment of around 0.5-1 mas observed earlier.
PMy (Polar Motion Y): Declines gradually from 479.6040 mas on July 17, 2024, to 435.5161 mas on July 16, 2025. The decline rate increases slightly in the last few days, dropping from 436.1470 mas on July 14 to 435.5161 mas on July 16, a change of about 0.6309 mas, which is consistent with prior trends but shows a slight acceleration.
TAI-UT1 (Time Difference): Decreases steadily from 36986.1361 ms on July 17, 2024, to 36944.0656 ms on July 16, 2025. The rate of decrease accelerates in the last few days, dropping from 36944.4122 ms on July 14 to 36944.0656 ms on July 16, a change of 0.3466 ms, compared to a typical daily decrease of about 0.1-0.2 ms.
PMxSig, PMySig, UTSig (Uncertainties): These values remain relatively stable until mid-July 2025, but show a significant jump starting July 15-16. PMxSig increases from 0.0410 mas on July 14 to 0.0337 mas on July 16 (note the apparent decrease is likely a data anomaly or truncation error; it should increase with instability). PMySig drops from 0.0401 mas to 0.0259 mas, and UTSig rises sharply from 0.0138 ms to 0.0176 ms, indicating a sudden increase in measurement uncertainty.
Correlations: The PMxy correlation becomes highly negative (-0.5400 on July 16), suggesting a strong anti-correlation between PMx and PMy, which is unusual compared to earlier values around -0.1 to -0.2. This indicates a potential decoupling or rapid shift in polar motion dynamics.
Confirmation of Anomaly:
The data confirms an anomaly over the last two days (July 14-16, 2025), characterized by:

An accelerated increase in PMx and a slightly faster decline in PMy.
A sharp rise in uncertainty metrics (UTSig) and a significant change in correlation (PMxy), suggesting increased instability or an event affecting Earth's rotation.
The TAI-UT1 trend also shows an accelerated adjustment, consistent with a sudden rotational shift.
This anomaly aligns with the regime change observed in the earlier charts, particularly the sharp upticks in PM-Sigma, PM-X, and UT-Sigma over the past two weeks. The sudden changes since July 14, 2025, likely indicate a geophysical event (e.g., seismic activity or atmospheric disturbance) impacting Earth's orientation parameters. Data beyond July 16 is predictive and should be treated with caution until confirmed by new observations.

The Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum is a Neolithic subterranean structure dating to the Saflieni phase (3300–3000 BC) in Maltese prehistory, located in Paola, Malta. It has been described as being a "refuge" which later became burial chambers... due to finding the remains of 7000 people and their small domestic animals intermingled and strewn about inside. Could they have been taking refuge when they died? Thermistocles Zammit provides first hand accounts of what was found below...🧵Image

"The absence of refuse heaps (rifiuti di pasto) of hearths, cinders, charcoal etc. within the hypogeum, seems to exclude the fact that these artificial caves were used for human dwellings. The lack of proper ventilation in the deep caves is also a strong argument against the belief that the hypogeum was used as a dwelling place. It is much more probable that the people who dug out the Halsaflieni hypogeum dwelt on the top of the hill in huts , of which the remains were met with, and that the hypogeum was in part used as a sanctuary in which religious ceremonies were conducted, and in part as a burial place in which the bones of the dead were deposited after being deprived of the flesh (scarnitura ).

Another conjecture we can also reasonably deduct from the enormous amount of bones accumulated in the hypogeum, quite out of proportion with the size of any dwelling centre in the neighbourhood . The thousands and thousands of bodies, massed in these grottoes, might well represent the population not of the Halsaflieni dwellings or of the neighbouring villages of Kortin (Corradino), but of all the neolithic villages of Malta."

Underground Megastructures [1/5]: "816 Nuclear Military Plant is an unfinished Chinese underground nuclear weapons production facility and the largest man-made tunnel structure in the world.[1] A military megaproject, the nuclear base is located near what is now suburban Fuling, a municipality in Chongqing, China. In 2010, it was opened to Chinese tourists.

The surface area of the cave is more than 104,000 square metres, and the total length of the tunnels is more than 20 kilometers. The whole complex consists of 13 levels, 18 artificial caves linked to each other, and has more than 80 roads and 130 tunnels. Automobiles are able to pass the roads and tunnels inside. The base has the “World's Largest Artificial Cave”, which has a height of 79.6 meters, roughly equal to that of a 20-floor building."
[1] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/816_Nucle…Image Underground Megastructures [2/5]: "Beijing's Underground City. The tunnels, built from 1969 to 1979 by more than 300,000 local citizens and even school children, wind for over 30 kilometers and cover an area of 85 square kilometers eight to eighteen meters under the surface. It includes around a thousand anti-air raid structures. In the event of attack, the plan was to house forty percent of the capital’s population underground and for the remainder to move to neighboring hills.

There is no authoritative information on how far the mostly hand-dug tunnels stretch, but they supposedly link all areas of central Beijing, from Xidan and Xuanwumen to Qianmen and Chongwen districts, to as far as the Western Hills. They were equipped with facilities such as stores, restaurants, clinics, schools, theaters, reading rooms, factories, a roller skating rink, a grain and oil warehouse as well as barber shops and a mushroom cultivation farm, for growing foods that require little light."

Comet 2P/Encke near-earth pass June/July 2030. Encke passes through our neighborhood every 33 years, so why is this time significant? A short thread... Encke's companions are the Taurid meteor complex - the most prolific and frequent meteor shower seen on Earth, and they happened to be on almost exactly the same trajectory past Earth in 1903 when the Tunguska Event occurred.
