Living Greek dialects still preserve the υ sounds the Erasmians claim were "authentic Attic":

Megarian: υ = [u] (back rounded) — κρούσταλλο [krústalo] = crystal

Pontic: υ = [y] (front rounded) — νύφε [nýfe] = bride

Cappadocian: υ = [y] (front rounded) — σκυλιού [scyˈʎy] = of the dog

Standard: υ = [i] — ύπνος [ípnos] = sleep
