Good afternoon! Sian here. I recently watched an interesting webinar by CSE Aware on consent in the sex industry (link to website in reply). Take away: the 'two consenting adults' idea is very different in reality, and 'consent' is challenged in many ways. CSE Aware point out that it's often not just the woman involved in 'consent', but also 3rd parties like pimps, escort agencies, parlours, online hosting sites - all of whom wish to profit from this 'consent'.

Good morning! Sian here. In light of our recent article on some Job Centres encouraging women to into OnlyFans, I'd like to comment a little on it from a survivor's point of view.

For someone still in the sex industry - perhaps doing street work when short of cash - going to the Job Centre and then being told that I should sell myself even more, simply to get another person off the welfare books, is a horrifying position to be in. Benefits are supposed to be a support net and a helping hand up, not a push into a misogynistic trap. Women deserve better. We deserve real jobs.Image If you've gotten out of the sex industry, going to the Job Centre only to be told to go right back into it is a punch in the gut. Many survivors already struggle with feeling as though all they're worth is sex. The DWP reaffirming that is a horrifying thought. It would send so many survivors spiralling right back into the hell they've managed to claw their way out of.

I had years of counselling and hard work trying to get myself on an even keel after prostitution. Some of the survivors I know had to spend time in hospital, their mental health was that bad. Yet here we see a government office actively trying to corral us into the very thing that left us so damaged in the first place.

"I was VERY VERY fortunate for not falling into a drug addiction" "The most cathartic thing for me was creating 'Build A Girl'. It works with girls and young women who are victims of sexual abuse. They are not going to go down the road I've gone down. It is a female only space, I am very serious about that"
