When my boys were 16, cops followed them home from the grocery store and turned on the lights right as they parked in front of the house. Lights caught my eye so I went outside, just in time to see the officer approaching my son's (driver) door, with his hand on his gun.
I called out before he got to the door & asked what he was doing. I told me to go back inside, and I refused. I identified myself as the homeowner and the boys as my kids. Hand was still on the holster. I asked why they were pulled over. Cop ignored me & knocked on driver window.

Part of our cultural responsibility as White folks trying to do better, is understanding and avoiding behavior that our culture would annihilate a person of color, for doing. Erasing double standards is part of dismantling white supremacy. What would have been said about Barack?
Sure we can grab a sample out of the bulk bin at the grocery store without issue, but should we? #WhitePrivelege

Hate to ruin the, "they must have horrible racist parents" narrative, but the truth is... those boys ARE white culture. Their parents didn't teach them racism. They just didn't teach them, at all.
Racism is the standing white culture doctrine, unless intentionally opted-out of.
White culture means: no positive cultural traditions, and no respect or acknowledgment of other cultures' traditions.

2 years ago, I was in Portland OR with my family for my bday weekend. The plan was food trucks & shopping. We had 2 days. On the 2nd day, we wandered into Nordstrom Rack in downtown.
