The current Libertarian National Committee Chair is not competent, presiding over the loss of half the staff and a dramatic drop in revenue and membership, driving @LPNational into insolvency.
She blocks all critics on social media to avoid being held accountable for her actions. @LPNational The @GOP is going through similar problems, with their Chair being entirely captive of the man who was so insistent that he won the last election that he sent a mob of supporters to overturn the will of the American voters.
Tough time to be a party member, when a Chair is biased.

The transformation of the @GOP into a cult of personality has resulted in those who are unwilling to worship a demagogue leaving the party to those who are loyal to MAGA.
It is impossible to win in the modern GOP without bending the knee to the previous President.
Unsustainable. @GOP As a political party appeals to a smaller, angrier base, people who are unwilling to engage in corruption, deceit, violence against political opponents, and hatred of neighbors for political disagreement abandon the party, making it more extreme and less able to win elections.

“Thus, there is no question and, indeed there is broad
agreement, that the matters before this Court center around the possession, by a President, of his
own Presidential records.” - a lawyer lacking citations trying to fill up space in a pleading

storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco… “Furthermore, acknowledging that executive privilege primarily benefits the United States, Movant continues to have rights related to the assertion of executive privilege.”

This would be stronger if the lawyers could cite what those “rights” are.

There was an elected Libertarian public official and current Libertarian candidate for public office who changed party affiliation to unaffiliated because her state Libertarian party had turned into a club for misogynistic podcasters.

That's their goal.

Drive good people out. They may prefer to call themselves “Libertarian” instead of “MAGA” or “alt-right” or just plain “Republican,” since those other, more accurate, labels are presently unpopular.

Right-wing reactionaries are would prefer to hide under a “Libertarian” umbrella.

Don't let them.

A short thread on libertarian vaccine ethics.

Individual autonomy and self-determination are the highest values in libertarianism, also referred to as self-ownership.

Your person is your own and nobody has a right to interfere with your control of yourself without your consent. Consent is a human value that has historically been minimized.

Forced marriages, slavery, feudalism, and making kids hug their creepy uncle are all infringements on individual autonomy and violations of consent.

People have freedom to choose what to put in their bodies.

Everything in life is a trade off, starting with the one thing we all have the same amount of, time in a day. 86,400 seconds. 1,440 minutes. 24 hours.

It's the same for everyone and choosing to do one thing with that time is to also choose not to do every other possible thing. Choosing to work outside the home is choosing not to stay home with the kids.
Choosing to pursue a college degree is choosing not to make immediate income by starting a job as an apprentice in the trades.
Choosing monogamy for a marriage is choosing against polygamy.
Trade offs.

Something is going to happen soon in our society and it's important to talk about it openly and publicly.

There are many people who have a distrust of vaccines and vaccination. For some people this is a skepticism that can be addressed with evidence, for others it's a reflex. In any large group, there will be people who hold spurious beliefs. Doctors and scientists are a large group. Therefore one can always find a doctor or scientist to provide credence to the spurious belief, and claim that the majority is hiding something.

There is a pattern in online argument that is worth exploring and explaining.

Many of my critics falsely accuse me of calling them or their idols terrible names like “Nazi” or “racist.”

They have no evidence but it’s not the point.

They’re poisoning the well on purpose. By falsely claiming that their critics have made ridiculous attacks, they aim to make their supporters dismiss any criticism without consideration.

Poisoning the well against any critical source convinces supporters to blind and deafen themselves to any outside evidence.

Explained to my children what happened last week on the way to the bus stop. We heard on @NPR about canceling the reservations for people who wanted to visit Washington, DC for the inauguration.

“ what is an inauguration?“ An inauguration is the first day someone takes office when they’ve been elected.

@JoeBiden was elected on November 3, 2020, but doesn’t take office until January 20, 2021. It takes time for them to count the votes and certify the election.

“Will Trump have to be kicked out?”

Truth Americans need to hear about Coronavirus, a thread.

Containment has failed. The virus is present in 184 out of 195 countries and all 50 states in the US. The United States will have the most confirmed cases in the world by the end of the weekend.

It won't go away. The minimization of the disease the President did for months and that people like @RichardAEpstein are still doing made the problem worse and is responsible for more American deaths than necessary.

COVID-19 is at least 10x as deadly as the seasonal flu, based on observed data.

Here is some high-quality information about COVID-19 from a Stanford Medical School researcher, Michael Lin, MD, PhD, in the form of a slide presentation.

drive.google.com/file/d/1DqfSnl… “CDC created a test requiring a slow RT-PCR reaction on a specific model of machine to be run overnight, not designing the right primers, and not realizing this for a month.”

What to do about coronavirus, a thread.

Since the government is doing all the wrong things, here's a thread of all the things we should be doing to combat this epidemic.

1) Get good sleep, eat healthy food, and go for walks outside. All of these things help your immune system. 2) Educate yourself about what the virus is, how it spreads, and ways that you can avoid exposure and exposing others.

Dr. Osterholm from @CIDRAP explains quite a bit in this @joerogan interview.

There is no effective containment strategy in the United States and there can't be while there are insufficient tests to determine whether people are infected.

South Korea and other countries have tests that could be used here if this Administration would allow it.

They won't. When the President is more concerned about looking good to cling to power than keeping the people safe, you get the government overriding infectious disease specialists to lie about the risk, suppress public health information, and risk even more American lives.

This must stop.

This is a good day to deal with this argument from people who claim it shows that libertarians should not support open immigration.

To start, Milton Friedman, a definite libertarian, did say this. That is the small truth that is too often delivered with a big lie. The lie is that this means that libertarians should not support open borders while we still have a welfare state.

This was not Milton Friedman's point, as anyone who has read his quote in context knows. But too many people maliciously take it out of context.
