Schools are closed. Don’t panic! The kids will be alright.

To help out in this unprecedented situation, we’re going to be creating a list of ACTUALLY GOOD educational videogames that you can play at home with the kids.

Here's a thread: Worth mentioning: this thread is by no means complete, and we would love your help in growing it.

Tweet us with suggestions to add to the list. We will add it on the end, and be sure to credit you.

(Also, all games can be good and educational, these are just suggestions!)

There has been a lot of talk recently about how the Coronavirus might spread amongst the global population.

But did you know that epidemiologists once studied World of Warcraft as a way to model how real life infections spread?

Let's talk about the Corrupted Blood Incident. 1/7 It's 2005. WoW is still a new and exciting game, with over 2 million players roaming around the fictional world of Azeroth.

The developers, Blizzard, have just released a new raid, in which players have to fight Hakkar the Soulflayer.

And Hakkar has an infectious spell.

We have THE Masayuki Uemura coming to the museum in a couple of weeks, and that's a big deal.

Why? Well, he was the designer for the Nintendo Entertainment System (this beauty right here.)

Originally released in Japan, the Family Computer was called the Famicom for short.

But in South Korea it was called the Comboy.

And its development codename was the 'GameCom'!

"Why don't my old games look as good as I remember?!"

Don't worry, it's not nostalgia playing tricks on you. Retro games genuinely don't look as good as they used to.

And it's due to the HD screens we're now playing them on.

📺 A THREAD ABOUT CRT TELEVISIONS 📺 Image There was a time when a 21" screen would have been considered big, and the pin sharp 8K resolution of today's wall filling displays were science fiction.

There was a time when TV's had curved plastic fronts, so it looked like you were watching everything through a goldfish bowl. Image

The NVM's Object of the Month:

💥🎮 Larazade 🎮💥

Whilst the star of Lara Croft might not burn quite as bright as it once did, there are few that have ever had as big an impact. As time passes, it’s easy to forget just how big Lara was in the 1990s.

(1/6) Let’s briefly set the scene... A new government had swept into Britain, ‘Cool Britannia’ was in full flow exporting arts and culture globally, and the Spice Girls were promoting ‘girl-power’ and now the PlayStation had been launched.
