The Light Infantry Future, an Idea Based on Decline Across Disciplines, a 🧵 1/This thread seeks to do what many analysts ignore. Inject politics, budgets, industry, economics & realism into my thesis. The military structure is not built in a vacuum & is subject to other outside forces. Let’s look at the big macro picture.

Peer Conflicts, US Army Terrain Training & Embracing Terrain Specialization (Thread) 1/Whether Indo-Pacom,Central America,South America or the Caribbean, all offer terrain that the US hasn’t operated in since Vietnam. The Army& USMC have “Jungle Warfare Schools”& while these teach individual students how to survive& operate in a jungle environment,it is inadequate

A Thread: The Monroe Doctrine, Banana Wars & Future Regional Hegemony 1/As mentioned in prev thread, the 🇺🇸will need to redefine the Monroe Doctrine for the 21st Century. What are🇺🇸priorities if we choose to pull back from the world? If🇨🇳&🇷🇺are no longer security priorities,as I believe will be the case in coming yrs, where do our interests take us?

Future American Conflicts on the Horizon (Thread) 1/The main 🇺🇸 military threats are concentrated on 🇨🇳& 🇷🇺 . The fact of the matter is: 🇨🇳would be cut off from the $ system. They import food & raw materials, which would be cut off,& the CCP would find themselves in a precarious situation.

1/Why I continuously beat the drum on military size, manpower & technology replacing humans is because it is the 1 pillar of strength the elite will struggle to control. Middle & working class can’t control the reserve currency, can’t control the multinational corps they work for, 2/Have little say concerning what the rich & powerful want. Since the ending of conscription, our military strength has been a bedrock that the 🌎 relies on for security. No more. Ironically, the“all-volunteer force’s”unrecoverable breakdown will break that pillar of 🇺🇸 guarantee

A Thread: Army Should Bring Back Long Range Surveillance Units 1/Based on war games conducted via computer models (which may have been flawed),the decision was made to eliminate Long-Range Surveillance (LRS) units in 2017. While derided by some at the time, including myself,it was,IMO,a decision based on risk aversion. taskandpurpose.com/news/army-deac…

1/I’ve opined abt my concerns for the future of the US Army, it’s dwindling size & it’s inadequate reserve numbers, but I admit to not having similar concerns w/the other services. While I’m typically annoyed w/the Navy supporters full-court press on ⬆️ ship numbers… 2/It would seem the services are attached at the hip concerning recruiting, or lack there of: navytimes.com/news/pentagon-…

Thread: The below breakdown ( from @battle_order ) of the US Army squad w/the Next Generation Squad Weapons is giving me serious pause. I’m concerned abt a few things, but impressed w/others, I’ll start /the positives… Image 1/I like the new optics & suppressors. While those can bring their own issues I think it will be a net benefit. I like the fact that the Army attempted to plus up their ammo from 556 as that round seems maxed out performance-wise. 🇦🇫 was not ideal for the M4 & SAW. The negatives:

1/ The numbers here are telling. Ukraine’s expenditure of these assets as well as the other allies gifted inventory has happened over the course of 6 weeks…bleeding Russia is a good enough reason for countries to gift so much. But let’s concentrate on the timelines… 2/ If the US found itself in a similar situation, going through the same or more inventory, it could not be sustained or replenished in any reasonable amt of time. Once these run low or out, we have to ask, who would we be fighting? Do we have all domestic sources to manufacture?

Thread: Remove Infantry from Bradley & Stryker Responsibilities & Hand Off to the Armor Field 1/Why do we have an armor/cavalry MOS fields (19 series), dedicated to mounted warfare, yet expect infantryman to master the operation & employment of Bradleys/Strykers? 1/The below article by @BDHerzinger makes the case for defunding the Army & reallocating resources to the Navy to face the perceived threats in the indo-pacific. THREAD: IS SPECIALIZATION HURTING THE TOTAL FORCE? 1/Hollywood comes out with all the movies, recognizing specialized units for their heroism and performance in battle. Rightfully so, but my question as part of my military musings, is what does that do to the units who have to take what they can get from what’s left over?

Let’s break this down from a military perspective… 1) From a strategic perspective, did we occupy a landlocked country that allowed us to surveil the surrounding countries? Yes, & we needed to pay off those same countries that played the other side & killed troops.
