Have you got two or more research masters or PhD opportunities and not sure which one to accept/decline? Please look beyond the funding and do the following:

1. Look at what other students think about your professor/advisor on ratemyprofessors.com This is particularly important because your supervisor/advisor is an important stakeholder in your graduate school journey. A good supervisor can make you enjoy graduate school despite all the stress associated with it. A bad advisor will frustrate you and your achievements.

Package those little wins in your graduate school/scholarship applications. There is a trend that I can confirm accurate in this scholarship journey. “Those that have won scholarships will continue to win more”.

We often overlook our little wins. We write them off totally. My scholarship journey did not start at UBC, not even at FUTA. It all started at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede. After emerging the best in my class in ND1, the polytechnic offered me free accommodation, tuition and associated fees waiver, and cash worth NGN 5,000 for ND 2 in 2011.

I had been successful with Securing masters admission (which were tuition-free) in Germany but as a young business person, raising and locking money into a German block account was an impediment. I was happy to learn that the Bavarian Geoscience Institute at UB was going to offer stipends to exceptional

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION:

Did you take the time to review the requirements of the scholarships you apply for? The goal is to get your one YES as quickly as possible & not piling up rejection letters. A lot of outstanding applicants apply for ANY & EVERY opportunity when they

should be applying for opportunities that best suit their profiles. To stand a chance of selection, you need to meet AT LEAST 70-85% of the program/school/scholarship (my opinion). Considering the time and effort put into applications, rejection letters hit & hurt so badly

High Vs Low CGPA in Scholarship and Admission Applications

2.5 x 3 is NOT equal to 2 x 3.5. The fact that someone landed a full scholarship with a low CGPA but with a great SOP does not mean that you, who achieved a high CGPA will land a scholarship with a poor SOP.

As a matter of fact, you have to look beyond your CGPA, (wether low or extremely high), to prepare a competitive, award-winning application. Below is a list of the criteria used to evaluate scholarship/admission applications.

1. CGPA: The evaluation weight given to CGPA
