As someone with a certification in Loss Prevention, there's all KINDS of stuff I could tell you about retail, and a great deal of it is psychological warfare.

Not kidding in the least.

Like when you see those mirrors or bubble domes? Those don't all have cameras behind them. Generally speaking, you're more likely to see the mirrors and reflective bubbles in high shrink (high value items that are likely to get stolen) areas. But as stated, they don't necessarily have cameras behind them.

Don't you think it's odd that you can SEE THEM?

As someone who has an actual education in Loss Prevention (yeah, I went to school for that), let me explain what this CEO is saying:

I'm not condoning, I'm explaining.

Math. It's literally cheaper to let them go with a handful of goods then to have an employee get hurt.

1/4 If the employee gets hurt, that means the company is on the hook for medical, and the insurance costs on that, and generally they don't insure for injury in THAT regard for rank and file employees (security services, however, yes.)
