I’ll be honest.

The block feature has never saved me - young, successful, woman journalist - from harassment.

It has been effectively useless. Trust me. This isn’t my “opinion.” Harassment has been my lived reality for more than three years. A constant onslaught of a battle I have largely been expected, if not forced, to face alone.

As someone who occasionally looks up well-known people’s GSP mug book photos for funsies, the idea GSP is a program solely for Andy Beshear to give out political favors is WILD (and a good time for me to bring out some screenshots) Let us begin with @AndyBeshearKY's 1995 GSP mug book photo — more than a decade after GSP began.

Hard to believe a *checks math* 5-year-old would know to start such a program to win political points.

(And yes, this really is his photo.)

NEW w/ @oliviamevans_: Are a record number of Kentuckians employed under Gov. Andy Beshear?

spoiler: no

courier-journal.com/story/news/pol… Beshear repeated this inaccuracy frequently over the past two-ish weeks.

His campaign included it in a fundraising email yesterday.

Only after being questioned by The Courier Journal about the accuracy of his data did he correct course.

It appears someone on the Ky. Dept. of Ed's legal team did a deep grammatical reading of SB 150 because their new guidance to schools prompted a Senate GOP email about KDE's "absurd efforts to skirt state law." KDE updated their guidance around SB 150 Monday, expanding on what they previously put out weeks ago.

Background on that from @KristaJ1993:

Tell me the best place to break up with someone in Louisville.

(For journalism.)

🚨Gov. Andy Beshear has VETOED Senate Bill 150. Beshear also vetoed Senate Bill 107, which would make Kentucky's education commissioner subject to Senate confirmation.

.@GovAndyBeshear just dropped his first set of vetoes for #KYGA23.

SB 150 is *not* on the list, but here's what is: House Bill 4 regarding electric generating facilities.

I've been getting some questions about this statement. So, let's chat. First, a point of context: Sen. Mike Wilson is the sponsor of SB 107.

All SB 107 does now is require Kentucky's education commissioner to be confirmed by the Senate every four years.

Floor debates signaled this bill was directly aimed at ed commish Jason Glass.

Gov. Andy Beshear is kicking off his weekly presser. He says he plans on signing several bills. No mention of any potential vetoes. 👀 Beshear signed HB 538 -- the student discipline bill -- into law.

HB 538 allows principals to create policies to handle disruptive kids ... much like how it is now.

No major, required changes in this now-law. #KYGA23

Hello from Frankfort! It is Day 28 of #KYGA23.

We have about 15 hours until the veto period.

All eyes are on the Senate, which tried to and failed to debate and vote on HB 470 last night.

courier-journal.com/story/news/pol… HB 551, the sports betting bill, just got a second reading in the Senate. This means it could get a full Senate vote March 29 or 30. #KYGA23

👀 Rep. Josh Calloway filed a floor amendment today to add the anti-drag language to Senate Bill 5.

SB 5 is supposed to be voted on tonight. Amendments are supposed to be filed at least a day in advance. #KYGA23 The House can vote to ignore "the 24-hour rule" and hear the amendment anyway.

They often do NOT do that ... for Dems. But for Republicans ...

Hello from the Kentucky Senate! It is Day 27 of the 30-day legislative session.

We're expecting a Senate vote on House Bill 470, the omnibus anti-trans bill, at some point today.

Stay tuned. #KYGA23 Senate Bill 47, the medical cannabis bill, just got a second reading. That could be passed out of the Senate tomorrow. #KYGA23

Kentucky’s Senate finishes its business without a vote on HB 470. LOL Sen. Damon Thayer just said they might have more orders of the day later today lol nice

Another lil twist in Kentucky's fight to figure out what it wants to do on the anti-trans/"parents' rights" front.

HB 173 didn't even get a committee assignment, signaling limited appetite for it as is. And given how some Senate Rs think HB 470 goes too far, hard to see how HB 173-as-a-floor-amendment is successful / torpedoes the entire thing before the veto period.

Seeing a lot of confusion in the mentions about this.

The surprise last-second push to audit @JCPSKY will not happen because a House committee refused to vote on it.

This means the potential JCPS audit will not happen.

Again, audit NOT happening.

courier-journal.com/story/news/pol… I'm going to walk through this as simply as I can.

Senate Bill 156 is a bill. It is a bill dealing with a state reading research center.

It passed out of a Senate committee and the Senate earlier in the session. #KYGA23

Good morning from Frankfort! It is Day 26 of #KYGA23 and what a day it will be!

Starting my day in the House Education Committee where lawmakers will vote on a sudden bill to audit @JCPSKY.

ICYMI:

courier-journal.com/story/news/pol… The crowd for JCPS is hoppin’. Three of the roughly 11 folks here are with JCPS.

so ok let's run through tomorrow

8 a.m. - surprise shawtyyyyy sb 156 is back at it in house education with a brand new direct aim at jcps

9 a.m. - ban on gender-affirming medical care + don't say gay surprise mashup in senate families + children also at 9 a.m. because my coverage areas are not considered in making the last-full-week-of-session schedule - a random hearing on a school choice amendment bill that can't legally pass this session because sure why not

Obtained a copy of the committee sub on HB 470 and it is a doozy. #KYGA23

🧵 Basically, they took SB 150, added a lil spice, and dumped it into HB 470.

BREAKING: Kentucky lawmakers are calling for a major audit on @JCPSKY -- including potential recommendations to split up Kentucky's largest school district.

courier-journal.com/story/news/pol… I know what you're thinking - didn't JCPS just get audited?

Yupp - Wayne Lewis called for a state takeover five years ago. And JCPS spent more than two years remedying hundreds of flaws, and got released from state oversight in late 2020.
