#ShareGardeningKnowledge #1 In 2011 my husband and I put up a 12 x 40 foot hoop house. Before it was installed we tilled this area of lawn, compost was later mixed in by hand. #ShareGardeningKnowledge The main reason why we built the hoop house was to extend our growing season. This is a clay based soil with all the sod tilled in, not removed. I have no idea what I'm doing in this picture, but I do love the smell of soil.

It is very easy and enjoyable to start trees from seed. Here is a mini forest of American Persimmons that I started from seed a few years ago. #Permaculture#TreeCrops
I find that most tree seedlings are very tolerant of growing in a crowded setting for their first and sometimes into their second year.

Would you like to have a seedling from one of the biggest American Sycamores in North America? I will mail it to you next spring if you do me one small favor.
I will send you a seedling that with care will grow for decades, maybe for centuries. This tree will absorb carbon, cool the planet, recycle water, hold the soil and create organic matter.

The complexity and the beauty of forests ability to naturally regenerate themselves is something I find fascinating and love to observe. #naturalregeneration
To be successful, natural regeneration requires....a source of seed, an adequate seed bed and needed climatic conditions. These requirements for natural regeneration varies with different plant species, some even require fire.
