(LONG THREAD ALERT) Action movies are one of my favorite things, so I've thought a lot about what they mean, and whether their values are at odds with my own. I don't take them literally, so it doesn't bother me being a non-violent person watching dudes get kicked in the face. But plenty of them, including some I consider classics, paint a picture of the world that I think is wrong. Many are militaristic and xenophobic or racist or depict cities as crime-ridden wastelands in need of vigilante justice due to the "red tape" of police accountability.

WELCOME TO THE WOO ZONE: a mega-thread on the awesomeness of John Woo.

John Woo's new movie MANHUNT is now on Netflix and on import blu-ray. It has his great action, themes of brotherhood, and a scene where doves save the lives of the two leads.

outlawvern.com/2018/03/15/man… Woo is also on my mind because he might remake his most iconic movie THE KILLER (1989) with Lupita Nyong'o in the Chow Yun Fat role. I love that idea! It's a beautiful story for Woo to re-imagine at a different stage of his career and life.
