Two qualities of papers likely to be accepted:
1) Is this general interest in the sense that it can be taught to an undergrad or PhD class?
(p.s. he thinks geography not a main indicator of general interest)

2) Is it a paper where others working in this field would have to cite?

Ok, listen up, everyone, Esther Duflo just said "Referees need to be more positive. This is just a paper in the AER , it's not some divine piece coming down! I am limited by the number of positive reports I get not by space available in the journal" Say what you like about the paper. The weight of the paper is not on your shoulders. Don't feel embarassed or worried the editor will go against you. "The younger people are the most negative. Mellow a bit" This is GOLD

2) I think some people may describe me as a randomista 😲 I'm writing up the results of an RCT as we speak and have some others ongoing. My work has been funded by JPAL, DIME etc.I have learned a lot from the laureates' work. I've hired people trained by JPAL/IPA etc. 2/n
