Helen Joyce is trending, not sure why, but again I will never in a million years understand the drive that leads people to get monumentally invested in the narratives that groups like trans folks are exploring and bigfooting your way in to go "No you're wrong. That is incorrect."
Particularly when you're so far removed from that personal experience and it asks so comparatively little of you. Just being like "I cannot let this stand it offends some core part of me I must insert myself into their experience to explain why it is dumb and bad."

President Obama could have commuted the sentence of every death row inmate in federal custody. He was lobbied hard to do so, and decided no.
Bc, as with many things, he was preternaturally obsessed with not letting the right caricature him or Democrats, which they did anyway.
He would, and did, let people die for the sake of not letting people say "oh he's soft! He's a dove! He's a socialist! He's radical!"
He modulated EVERYTHING around that (as older gen Dem leaders have for 40 years).
And they said all that anyway. And won the argument anyway.

1 I like Seth, but it takes him awhile in this (good) thread to get to the point, which is this:
ANY finding of Mueller’s that does not come with a criminal charge will in practice be viewed by most everybody as an exoneration on that charge. This especially includes Congress.
2 As Seth explains, this is bad and dumb, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true. And it won’t just be Repubs saying this—a large, dominant swath of the media and even the Democratic opposition will hold the same assumption. Anything below “beyond a reasonable doubt” he’ll skate on.

@MatthewSitman I think it’s more tactical than that. A huge swath of the Democratic Party came of age or came to power when the height of Democratic strategy was Clintonism—a permanent defensive crouch against ever being seen as “too liberal,” and a hyper-focus on white rural “swing” voters...
@MatthewSitman Clintonism was obsessed with trying to SEEM acceptable to cultural Republicans or Reagan Democrats. Keep the far left at arm’s length. Don’t over-play to minority or urban voters. Play up your faith. Pick a Southern guy as a running mate (or be one). Go hunting. Etc...
