Asked a frnd of mine who's about to sit for UPSC Prelims this year, if he heard of the great freedom fighter, Muthuramalingam Thevar.

Reply was no - ( which is suprising & not surprising at the same time) . If a UPSC aspirant who spends hours reading & reading history..

(1/n) ..wasn't aware of a man ...whose contribution to the freedom struggle is till date seen as exemplary & a legend (in Tamil Nadu & nat'ly), it speaks volumes of the kind of history we're teaching even now ( 6 y after NaMo has been in power).

Everyone uses the word Tana Shahi to refer to dictatorship. But was it really the case that Tana Shah was a dictator ?

History shows the contrary!

(1/n) Abdul Hasan Tana Shah was the last ruler of the Qutb Shahi Dynasty that ruled the Deccan from Golconda before Aurangzeb occupied the fort by deceit. He was regarded as a benevolent ruler and was connected to the story of Rama Bhakta Ramadāsu.
