Why aren't we sequencing more in the US? Cost is a big factor. Some others in our lab's experience: reagent shortages, staffing, prioritization and access to instruments, space, and again $$. 1/ We sequenced our first WA sample on 28-Feb and continued to ramp up sequencing through March and April. At one point we had deposited ~15% of all sequences that were available at that time. Got liquid handlers to speed things up. Then the reagent shortages started to hit. 2/

Articles like these coming out of India scare me.

First, there are only *two* full SARS-CoV-2 genomes from India, both from Kerala. Unless there's additional data that hasn't been published, I'm not sure how one can say anything about the strains circulating locally. 1/ No sources have been cited for any of the claims being made. 2/
