On Encryption 1/12: In a time when citizens are demanding accountability & transparency from their local law enforcement, @PortlandPolice have made the decision to shut the door on the media & citizens by turning on encryption to their police dispatch channels.
Continued 2/12: It is important to safeguard citizens & protect neighborhoods, which is where the media comes in to play. The public relies on media outlets to supply them with information about ongoing events which may affect them directly.

Multnomah County/City of Portland: we have no way to monitor dispatch in East County or the Metro Area. @911BOEC@PortlandPolice and @MultCoSO have moved all of their police radio traffic to encrypted channels with no warning to the public. 1/6
While we understand the need for encryption for tactical operations, such as crowd control and Drugs/Vice or SWAT, we believe that encrypting regular patrol channels is a hinderance to the transparency of a publicly funded emergency service. 2/6

Update: northbound on SE 148 passing SE Stark, westbound on Burnside in opposite lanes, now back to Stark westbound, 50mph and moving through the neighborhood, car has been spiked.
