Today is the deadline for governments to reach a deal to tackle the intellectual property barriers that prevent low and middle-income countries from accessing COVID-19 medicines and tests.

But, last night, nearly 3 years into the pandemic, @WTO members asked for more time. 1/ The WTO started discussing intellectual property barriers for COVID-19 medicines and tests in October 2020.

As many as 17 million people are estimated to have died in that time.

To say that more time is needed to consider the issue is utter nonsense. 2/
