One of the topics covered in our Asian American focus groups was how participants viewed their own racial or ethnic identity, such as Hmong, Korean or Bhutanese. Many participants described a complicated relationship with the pan-ethnic labels “Asian” or “Asian American.” 1/ Image For some, using these was less an active choice and more an imposed one, with participants discussing the lack of available choices often found in formal settings such as on a job application or a school application. 2/ pewresearch.org/race-ethnicity…
