@WeAreTheLoopUK I'm not a member of any group that opposes BoH.

As I've said, it needs to be side-by-side - in agreement with you.

As for what works in Australia - policy development is influenced by culture. Each country always has nuances in policy development & application @WeAreTheLoopUK I have 15 years experience working in policy development, & there are some policies that never get traction or acceptance because the little being done already in the space is considered "enough"

I don't think that people disagreeing with the path you are taking in Australia's harm reduction landscape should be taken as a reflection of people's opinion about your commitment to harm reduction generally & drug checking specifically.

1/9 I don't think harm reduction policy & (more importantly) implementation would be where it is without the work you have done.

That being said, there are some very important aspects to the Australian landscape - with regards to politics & policy development - that are crucial

There has been a lot of talk in the last few days about #CMI & information provided by pharmacists & GPs when new medicines are provided.

@GregHuntMP @LeanneWells63 @CHFofAustralia @MetherellMark

@ShaneJacks @topherfreeman @PSA_National @gigmoses @elliott_rohan One of the points raised is that written information is needed to support the person at a time when they are being inundated with new information

This is no doubt true - something I regularly call for - but it is also not a surrogate for the clinical role a pharmacist undertakes

So at some point we have to start asking those people who talk about policing as the only option for preventing deaths from drug use at festivals, when will this method start to stem the deaths?

@ACTINOSProject @GladysB @nswpolice If the argument is that the best possible safety is from policing events without drug checking services, then one has to ask, why are there still deaths?

Yesterday I had two people where incorrect prescriptions caused significant delay to accessing treatment.

I've created threads about this before, but this needs to be addressed regularly

1/19 First principle
If you are making a recommendation to your patient, PLEASE write it on a prescription

PLEASE!

One of the interesting cases I had today was a young woman newly diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.

Since diagnosis 2 weeks ago, she has had some ....experiences.... She has been prescribed methotrexate & hydroxychloroquine - dropped these off last week & has been reading about them online since, before coming back to collect them

Thread

Tips for #pharmacists on how to ensure your call to a #doctor doesn't waste your time or theirs

Or

How to ensure the next pharmacist who calls this doctor isn't 'punished' for how you handle yourself

(Foreshadowing of another thread later) When you identify an issues, decide if it is important or trivial

Should you clarify a trivial issue? Is it preventing you from dispensing, or do you just lack confidence?
