I would like to share an interesting example of how this 'citation citadel/circlejerk' works. It is a story about the illegal Babri Structure at the Ramjanmabhoomi site. Interestingly, here too, some Marxist historian named 'D Mandal' is involved. (I am not certain if it is him.)
So, in 1976-77, the Bhisma Pitamah of Indian archaeology, the Late Shri B.B. Lal, conducted excavations at Ayodhya - with a team of ASI, IIAS, and the School of Archaeology people. Now we all know, that Hindu motifs of the 11-12th centuries were found there, and it established that the Babri structure was built over the remains of a Hindu temple.
However, these survey findings were unacceptable to the Aligarh-Marxist and Left historians of JNU. So, they tried exactly what 'D Mandal' did about imagining India's first female Muslim teacher who never existed.

The Left historians of JNU, with the active connivance of Aligarh-Marxist, in November 1989, came up with a small publication titled The Political Abuse of History: Babri Masjid-Ramjanmabjoomi'Dispute - An Analysis by twenty-five historians.
Not surprisingly, they questioned Prabhu Shri Rama, his historicity, and the Ayodhya site. To misguide the public, they argued that the excavation by Prof Lal had not exposed any temple remains at all. To divide the Hindus, they even said that "the place was holier for Buddhists and the Jains much before the Hindus."
Interestingly, neither of them was an archaeologist nor had visited the excavation site. Do you know who were the prominent leaders of this group? These were the ones who are now the mandatory reads for UPSC aspirants for studying History: Professor Romila Thapar, Bipan Chandra, RS Sharma, Irfan Habib, Athar Ali, DN Jha, and Suraj Bhan.
Their claims were both outrageous and funny, not just funny, but as @Akshay_VAK would like to say, "dark comedy funny."

Thread👇 #KKMuhammed (An Indian I Am)
Followers of the BJP and the RSS are quite eloquent about the 'glorious civilisation of India' but have miserably failed in projecting a vision..This period (Modi Ji's tenure) will go down in the history of the ASI as the most unfortunate
period during which all those who imposed these "toilet complexes" knew the cost of toilets and cafeterias but not the value temples and monuments...When Shri Narendra Modi came to power...Culture lovers...were hoping to see a sea of change in the field of culture...
