The Chinese MFA spokesperson Twitter feed is a hilarious collection of chutzpath and brazen lack of self-awareness. The most "supremely ironic" part is the fact that China itself bans Tiktok and Twitter. The spokesperson has to use a VPN to tweet. Chinese MFA spokesperson: "Tiktok is registered in accordance with the US's laws and subject to the US's regulation."

Also Chinese MFA spokesperson: "How dare the US lawmakers change its own laws to regulate TikTok?" Image

She is misleading her audience with the video. Let me summarise what actually happened (full video here )
1. Brendan Kavanaugh, a youtube pianist, was streaming his performance at the King's Cross St Pancras station in London. youtube.com/live/65iwnI2hj…
2. A group of Chinese living in London, were making a segment for a Chinese TV outlet celebrating Chinese New Year. The outlet required them not to disclose the performance (perhaps for commercial reasons)

Chinese nationalist media Guancha celebrates Victor Gao’s insult-laden appearance about Taiwan on Al Jazeera. Gao bragged about his law license in New York and disparaged the other panelist, an American professor, as not knowing history or law. Gap is actually wrong on both. why does Guancha mask Al Jazeera’s logo from the video clip, stealing their content? This is the asymmetrical info warfare China is playing: their surrogates get on foreign media all the time pushing propaganda, but no foreign views contradicting Beijing can be heard in China

Twitter has removed the “state affiliated media” for Chinese state media propaganda accounts. Meanwhile Twitter is banned in China.

Great job @elonmusk ImageImageImage Comrade Andy claims that “no one tells me what to post”. That’s a lie. Gen Sec told Andy what to post, in no uncertain terms. ImageImage

Generally speaking PMs and Premiers should avoid directly critiquing their own colleagues on foreign policy when travelling abroad, especially in a country which holds two Australians in arbitrary detention and places numerous unfair trade sanctions on Australian products This is basic political etiquette: as elected leaders, they represent ALL Australians, not just their own party, when visiting foreign countries on taxpayer funded trips. @MarkMcGowanMP could have simply said “there are diverse views in Aus on how to handle China relations”

Comrade @chenweihua, China Daily's reporter in Brussels, has tweeted many times about the Ohio derailment in which no one died, but remains quiet about the Beijing hospital fire which killed 29 patients. He only cares about white Americans. ImageImage Comrade Chen tweeted endlessly about abortion rights in the US, but has never ever for once condemned the brutal Chinese government policy of forced abortions for Chinese women. He only cares about rights of American women. ImageImageImageImage

There are five groups that are actively or tacitly supporting Russia, or at least tolerate Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The first one, the most despicable and intellectually dishonest, is the tankie left, as Wang explained here The 2nd group, the US hard right. These people share Putin’s “anti-woke” ideology and admire his authoritarian rule as a way to restore white Christian conservative way of life. Such as @TuckerCarlson and Donald Trump

ChatGPT is trending on Chinese social media. A friend just shared this article about the author’s attempt to ask a WeChat app based on the AI platform why some people’s WeChat account are suspended. It wouldn’t answer. And a few minutes later, the article was banned by WeChat The AI language learning module is only as good as its data inputs. That's why it is dubious if a Chinese chatbot would work, considering the highly censored nature of the Chinese internet. What if the Chinese bot were asked "explain what's the Tank Man?"

LOL This is the reason perhaps AI chat would hardly work in China

My favourite Twitter genre today is Chinese propaganda apparatus claiming the balloon story was made up by the Pentagon to smear China, before the Chinese Foreign Ministry admits it **is** their balloon Here is Comrade Hu claiming it is a typically American outlandish roguish smear to attribute the balloon to China, that it is very likely from another country

There are many questions raised in Chinese Twitter about this report from state media about a WuHan hospital undertaking three child heart transplants in one day. All three patients only came to the hospital in late October. Miraculously on 6 Nov the hospital obtained … …THREE “sources” of hearts from other cities. Is there a national register of waiting list? How come these three get the matching donated hearts so quickly? How did they become available?

Unverified leaked instructions for Shanghai state media outlets on how to report on the ending of lockdown:
Do not use the phrase “ending of lockdown”. Unlike WuHan, Shanghai has not been placed in lockdown, but rather a pause under “whole area static management” … …as core functions of the city have not been interrupted. Note the reopening is conditional as not all areas are lifting restrictions (so it’s no lockdown. people of Shanghai, who do you believe? Your government or your own lying eyes?)

1. the account clearly marks itself as "parody". I know it's hard for Chinese officials to understand the concept, since no parody of government is allowed in China
2. "Twitter is an effective platform for free speech", which is why it's banned in China And the Streisand Effect: the parody account has tripled its followers since being highlighted by the real one

In this state media article dated Nov 2021, China’s FM spokesman @zlj517 boasts about his Twitter following bigger than @SecBlinken’s. Interestingly that’s no longer the case.

I was surprised by @LiuXininBeijing’s candid tweet showing her stocking up in preparation for lockdown and empty shelves from a Beijing supermarket. And not surprised it was deleted it and replaced with a happy photo of the fully stocked shop a day after. I mean who among us hasn't photoed a piece of supermarket vegetable complete with marker highlighted date? Totally normal behaviour.

China’s Covid Zero policy is beginning to look like a political strategy, rather than a scientific approach. According to WHO, 100,000 Chinese die every year in second hand smoke alone. Yet Beijing didn’t lock down a single tobacco factory.
