The Taihō Code, also known as the Taihō ritsuryō or Taihō Ritsu-ryō, was a significant legal code in the history of Japan.
It was promulgated in the year 701 CE during the reign of Emperor Monmu. (1/8)

Kōrei's reign allegedly began in 290 BC.

Wagamama is a British restaurant chain, serving Asian food based on Japanese cuisine.
The first Wagamama was opened in 1992 in Bloomsbury, London, founded by Alan Yau, who subsequently created the Chinese restaurants Hakkasan and Yauatcha & Thai restaurant Busaba Eathai. (1/7)

Udon is a thick noodle made from wheat flour, used in Japanese cuisine.
There are a variety of ways it is prepared and served. Its simplest form is in a hot soup as kake udon with a mild broth called kakejiru made from dashi, soy sauce & mirin. (1/9)
It is usually topped with thinly chopped scallions.
Other common toppings include prawn tempura, kakiage (mixed tempura fritter), abura-age (sweet, deep-fried tofu pouches), kamaboko (sliced fish cake) & shichimi spice added to taste. (2/9)

Kuroda Kiyotaka also known as Kuroda Ryōsuke was a Japanese politician of the Meiji era & second Prime Minister of Japan from 1888 to 1889 succeeding Itō Hirobumi.
Kuroda was born to a samurai-class family serving the Shimazu daimyō of Kagoshima, Satsuma Domain, in Kyūshū. (1/9)
In 1862, Kuroda was involved in the Namamugi incident, in which Satsuma retainers killed a British national who refused to bow down to the daimyo's procession.

Susami a Japanese delicacy consisting of fresh raw fish or meat sliced into thin pieces & often eaten with soy sauce.
The word sashimi means "pierced body"
This word dates from the Muromachi period & was possibly coined when the word "切る" = kiru (cut). (1/12)
The culinary step, was considered too inauspicious to be used by anyone other than samurai.
This word may derive from the culinary practice of sticking the fish's tail & fin to the slices for the purpose of identifying the fish being eaten. (2/12)

Though he knew only a handful of guitar chords & improvised most of his lyrics (as opposed to committing them to paper), he was asked to perform with the band that night. (1/11)
