@RantyHighwayman Would be useful to know if @livingstreets & @LivingStreetsEd support this position by @EdinburghBUG "Current Floating Bus Stop designs do not meet the needs of bus users and should not continue to be rolled out" & what evidence they base that on, what alternatives they propose... @RantyHighwayman @livingstreets @LivingStreetsEd @EdinburghBUG Because this really reads like 'we don't really want anyone else cycling or care about cycling safety so we will take a few upset people shouting about change over all available evidence as most important'. At risk of repetition, floating stops do not appear to reduce bus use...

@Penny_Gowland @georgebernhard @RantyHighwayman The big issue here is what "real" constitutes and indeed how to balance multiple "concerns" across multiple modes. So, let's work it through.
1. Buses do mix with people cycling at stops in many locations - where there aren't cycle tracks, for instance. But who cycles there?... @Penny_Gowland @georgebernhard @RantyHighwayman Basically, fast, fit men. That's about it. So you cannot build a cycle network for a far wider range of people if your answer to bus stops is 'mix it with buses'. You've eliminated kids, most women, elderly people etc from cycling right there. And no, bus drivers aren't all...

@HanoverHills @rowkz @bright30243439 @jonburkeUK @CarolineLucas @bhlabour @BHGreens @BHGreenCllrs OK, Tim, a few challenges to your response (tx for it, though).
1. I'll start w some basics on LTNs as you do seem to be struggling. LTNs are 'area-wide'. So some roads, which may make up majority of residents, may not initially see scheme as "necessary". Question to ask is... @HanoverHills @rowkz @bright30243439 @jonburkeUK @CarolineLucas @bhlabour @BHGreens @BHGreenCllrs Not 'do most folks I accost on doorstep while out campaigning want to have a pop at scheme being unnecessary'. It is 'are there roads inside area where ratrunning is a serious problem? This should come in form of data (85th centile speeds, vols) & surveys of roads. Likely...

The bestest, brightest tweeters & campaigners1 on active travel are women, incl @Jo_Earlsfield & @carlafrancome. That Jo has been targeted by a nasty misogynist gang of bitter men, raging that they've lost the argument in every way, is sadly unsurprising. #BigUpJoRigby My thoughts FWIW. 1. Don't engage w these idiots directly. Don't reply. Screenshot & use to make points if you must. Report. But don't engage. Don't feed trolls folks. 2. Good news: they've lost. That they do stuff like this shows that. 3. Bad news: that makes those left worse...

Yeah, this underlines a serious point. The progress @MayorofLondon @willnorman & others achieved during crisis has been remarkable & is hugely appreciated. But it isn't just TfL finances at issue here or at Holborn. There is something running deeper than that... (long thread) Most of these projects were theoretically shovel ready well before the crisis hit & TfL finances collapsed. All could & should have been.
- At Holborn gyratory, temporary materials and quick measures if they'd been put in after 2018 could have saved a life, of a kids' doctor...

Campaigners who moan (me included) listen up.
- It can be easy, I know, to slip into attacking others, being outraged at tabloids & shock jock rants about cycling & active travel. But that is what they want. If you have not figured it out, tagging in or replying to them?... 1/12 That's what they want. Diminutive Samurais and Talk Radio hosts don't care if you are angry at them, nor do One groups. The more you reply, the more eyeballs their arguments get. And the more you attack them, the less important data or evidence gets. Because they are... 2/12

@sarahjolney1 @friendsofkings1 @KingstonCycling @rogermerriman @HilaryGander @NKingstonFocus @RBKingston @ollywehring Few thoughts on this FWIW.
1. I'm very happy to *meet*, chat through all these issues w you, @KingstonCycling etc.
2. I'd direct you absolutely to @London_Cycling & @UM_Streets doc on engagement, consultation: lcc.org.uk/pages/engageme… I'm a bit biased, but IMO a cracker... @sarahjolney1 @friendsofkings1 @KingstonCycling @rogermerriman @HilaryGander @NKingstonFocus @RBKingston @ollywehring @London_Cycling @UM_Streets 3. I know it's not really an MP's area to weigh in on local schemes in this way - that's really Cllrs job. So thank you so much for adding your voice, but would campaigners be better off talking to ward & cabinet Cllrs in your view?
4. That said, let's talk consultations...

@KeaneMJ @citycyclists @ovalfm 1. What businesses report & what actually is happening can be v different. When #wfminiholland went in we had traders telling us they were losing revenue even though shops, cafes, pubs were totally overflowing. I had a publican complain folks weren't buying booze... @KeaneMJ @citycyclists @ovalfm If you can't convert massive footfall increase into revenue, that's not fault of scheme. Also some traders were, turns out, playing angle for relief/funding from council. Others were passing on moans of suppliers adjusting to delivery changes...
