90.6% of kids who speak Tamil at home are now going to English medium schools.

This is CN Annadurai’s wish for his beloved Tamil people, realised. Tamils learn English and have a higher wage rate to show for it. Image The contrast to Tamil Nadu isn’t some state in the BIMARU club. It is the industrialised and prosperous states of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Both those states have a low English adoption. And, they also have low wage rates despite being industrialised. Image

Why is there a pigeon feeding area at the Marina? Who approved this?

There are at least a few thousand pigeons now every morning at the Marina beach. They make the beach sand dirty and make the beach look terrible. And suddenly there are so many people sleeping on the beach. So many.

This city needs to do better in terms of imagining its public spaces.

An uncle of mine came home.

He was so enamored by the solar Panel installation in my house. Especially when I told him the house runs entirely on solar power and uses grid power only as a back-up. I assumed that's because he really a climate change worrier like me. Turns out he just hates government. And sounded like one of those American survivalists.

It’s bizarre how ordinary people who live wretched lives in India seem to think India being the 5th largest economy in the world means something. Like it’s one thing for people in GK II to be innumerate but rich and say something stupid like that.

How does it make sense for someone who’s neck deep in debt, has no prospects of a job and is paying the price still for follies like Demonetisation and GST.
