🍽️My favourite Crimean Tatar dishes (everything is prepared by my mom):

1. Crimean Tatar Cantik (pronounced 'djantik') - meat pies traditionally prepared in Crimea.

2. SarΔ±burma

I usually don’t eat a lot, but i can eat the entire sariburma by myself 😭 This is the best!! Image

My family for many centuries lived in the steppe part of Crimea, near Kefe and Keriç.

But 18 May 1944 has changed their lives forever.
On this day my pregnant great-grandmother Zaide together with her 4 children was violently deported by russians from Keriç, Crimea to Ural. Image While my great-grandfather was fighting in the Red Army against the nazis, his family was transferred by cattle trains without food, water and was thrown out in the middle of the wood to die.

But somehow they survived, except for the newborn child.

When the occupation of Crimea took place in 2014, i had just turned 12.

But i still remember some stories from that period which i want to share with you. Part 1

Me and all my Crimean Tatar friends supported Ukraine. We were kids😭, but we wanted to express our position too. In the whirlwind of the occupation of Crimea, the best idea we came up with as children was to write in the most prominent place of our street Β«ΠšΡ€ΠΈΠΌ-Ρ†Π΅ Π£ΠΊΡ€Π°Ρ—Π½Π°Β», which means Crimea is Ukraine.

And we did it. With chalk, which we used to draw pictures on the floor.

The first thing russians always did after the occupation of a certain territory was to destroy the culture and language of the local indigenous population.

After the deportation of Crimean Tatars in 1944, russia tried to erase any mention of them in Crimea. Let’s see how. In Crimea, 560 rural libraries and 861 school libraries were destroyed and burned.

860 Crimean Tatar schools were closed, as well as many cultural institutions - from village clubs to museums.

Many different manuscripts have also disappeared. Their fate is unknown.
