I have a folder for “praise” and a folder for “shade”. It’s important to be able to have this stuff written down or archived for reviews or if you need to negotiate an exit/severance package

A consistent theme in a lot of these poorly written essays on Blackness we’ve seen this month is (1) a desire for white approval which goes in-interrogated by the author and (2) a belief that there’s only one way to be Black and that way is usually a stereotypical one
The author of that Harper Bazaar’s piece longs for Black intimacy but her description of what she’s looking for is just AAVE? Black people are somehow being fake if they don’t talk like this?
In real life Charlotte wouldn’t be the private school mom that’s cool with BW parent but whatever #AndJustLikeThat

Everyone is upset about that activism reality TV show competition but it seems like the natural end result of everything that’s been happening since 2014. Blue Vest doing ads for Doritos. Activists with real estate portfolios. Activists signing deals with major talent agencies
Ben Crump has an agent. Shaun King has a clothing line. Look at everyone who hustled a TV/movie/book deal out of the uprisings this summer. The genie is out of the bottle

I sometimes wonder if people try to diversify certain spaces to feel less guilty about their participation in those spaces
Like removing To Kill a Mockingbird from the curriculum because it uses the N word doesn’t change the fact that you’ve chosen to send your kid to an elitist private school that also (likely) contributes to segregation in K-12 schooling

My theory is that Clubhouse's popularity comes from the fact that the barrier for entry to attempt to be an influencer is relatively low compared to YouTube, IG or even Twitter
