yup. a harrowing 90-minute talk about Jan. 6, and this is the headline — across the board. why? I would not be surprised to see SOME headlines like this, of course. there are those who will always treat sexual assault as a salacious item. but I am genuinely surprised that these are ubiquitous. this is the focus for the entire media world, apparently.

in case anyone needs a reminder, Joe Ricketts:
- already tried to start a news site
- repeatedly tried (unsuccessfully) to influence the slant of its coverage splinternews.com/the-billionair…
- shut that news site down unceremoniously when its writers unionized (including me) additionally, in case you have any doubt about his own political slant: Ricketts is one of the few billionaires in the country who has donated to Trump's super PACs steadfastly, in 2016, for the 2018 midterms and again in 2020 www-nytimes-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.nytime…

very big news: Mayor de Blasio will announce a zoning proposal today that will allow 3,200 more units of housing in SoHo

this headline is a question, but there is no doubt: SoHo will be the site of New York City's next battle over development

nytimes.com/2020/10/07/nyr… context: the conversation around SoHo and putting affordable housing in New York's wealthy neighborhoods is already emerging as a big theme in the 2021 race

I wrote about that here — thecity.nyc/housing/2020/9…

Huge news on the Lower East Side:

A court ruling put the brakes on the Two Bridges towers. A judge nixed the permit, and says the whole thing needs to go through public review.

thecity.nyc/2019/08/two-br… The Two Bridges decision by Judge Arthur Engoron begins with this quotation from "Greater Gotham" by historian Mike Wallace:

“They wanted not a scattershot, profit-driven chaotic, and ugly city but one that was orderly, civic-minded, planned, and beautiful."

Right now: People are gathering in Times Square to protest President Trump's firing of Jeff Sessions. The rally will begin here, with a march down 7th Ave. to Union Square. I'll be covering for WNYC. The event is organized by @MoveOn @riseandresistny
@PENamerican @es_indivisible and others.

First chant of the night has begun: "Hey hey, ho ho! Donald Trump has got to go!"
