Today, after 36 years of teaching hundreds of Indians who aspired to be journalists, Thomas Oommen is formally putting aside his pen, which never ever ran out of red ink in the critical pursuit of excellence among his students.
I owe everything of professional consequence to him. Prof Thomas Oommen on the right. His soulmate in everything, In India, a country where many universities offer journalism degrees that are not worth the paper on which they are printed, Prof Oommen, which is what everyone called him (KTO, as he would sign-off), focused relentlessly on what mattered through programs that lasted <12 months.
