So...in a past life, I did a bunch of consulting work for university student housing projects. In the process, I got an inside view of the finances of foreign student enrollment, and why the left academic complex is so pro-open borders. 1/ Foreign students pay full freight on tuition and housing, at higher-than-local tuition.

Most of them have to pay up front, as a condition of entry. They also need lots of remedial stuff, and then go on for grad school, so they stay longer.

Story Time.

Long ago, in the Before Time, when I was working in an auto shop one summer during my college years, I was at a McD's getting lunch when a Young Scholar of a Neely-ish Persuasion came shambling in and was walking around harassing diners. People were generally ignoring him, but he was being loud, aggressive, and confrontationally odorous. McD's staff told him to leave, but otherwise did nothing when he refused.

A family of tourists came in: grandparents, parents, and 4 young kids. Obvious out-of-towners.
