Let me tell you about how our City's law enforcement yesterday gave us an example of the freedom we enjoy in 2025. I understand our hard for fought freedom is enshrined in and protected by our constitution. And the laws that our law enforcement agencies enforce are supposed to be in line with the rights that are protected by that same constitution. And despite numerous rulings that have found the City of Cape Town and it's Law Enforcement Agency to be incontravention of of those rights when it comes to their actions aimed at individualks who have created

Good morning all. I admitted this weekend that I had made a mistake and in a few of my posts, said that I would repay those who assisted me and the staff of CM Homeless Solutions during USAID crisis this month back on Monday, the 15th of April. I explained that I had realised my "wishful thinking mistake" and that it is in actual fact Tuesday, the 15th of April. Yet I have had one lender insisit I "keep my promise and pay (him) back today. I will find a way of paying this person back today, but I want this person to understand the horrible stress he

I am extremely upset this morning. Earlier on in the week I mentioned on this page that I had the promise of a loan of R500 to help one of our staff members and have assumed it would materialise. It has not. The individual that made the offer asked me about each of the staff members and he chose Amanda, who is disabled. An arrangement was made to meet with him this morning at the McDonalds in Parow for breakfast. I phoned to confirm yesterday, nothing. I messaged yesterday -nothing.

Good afternoon. We are now only R1000 short of helping all nine our staff members after their shock of having salaries frozen and then not paid last month. This R1000 is R500 each for two of our moms with babies. They desperately need diapers and formula and both no longer have electricity at home.
Please contribute what you can. We need 10 people to contribute R100.

I have just received a message from one of the last 4 affected staff members who need urgent assistance. Donovan has been renting from his uncle (and as seems to happen with most family and business relationships this one is proving that blood is not thicker than the rand. His uncle has locked him, his wife and their 3 year old out of the flat he rents to them. I have spoken with the uncle and its like talking to a brick wall. He expects the outstanding R600 that Donovan is still short on his rent before he allows them entry into the flat.

Good afternoon everyone. Update on the situation of our 9 staff members whose salaries were not paid when our salary donor lost his contribution from USAID. A new South African funder has agreed to fund all thirteen salaries as end of April. To avert some huge crises in the lives of 9 of these individuals, we need R4900 to help the get to month end without major disruption to their lives. These are dire needs. We have thus far received contributions to the value of R1700 and loans of R1000. We still require R2200

CM HOMELESS SOLUTIONS staff were funded by a US donor whose entity that was funded by USAID. We have subsequently.14 people including myself were not paid or only paid a very small portion of our salaries for April. Cm Homeless Solutions was set up with a promise to donors and funders that donations will be used 100% for beneficiaries and so offers no solution to our current crisis.

This is a short summary of the impact CM Homeless Solutions and its various programs has had and is having on the lives of those living on the streets.
I am most proud of:
*the fact that out of a total of 721 people we have accommodated throughout the year Image
Image
at Dignity House and the 19 lodges, Only 7 returned to the streets.
* that we currently employ 187 individuals in our own ,
*and that 265 of those we too off the street are now gainfully employed and living in private and independent accommodation.

Having assessed the guys in Camps Bay, Houtbay and Hangberg, we found that 6 of the guys we will be accommodating tomorrow have got security gradings that are in high demand.
I spoke with the security company that has regularly employed the guys we accommodate through restart Image and he agreed to see them this morning.
We have just heard that four of the six can start as soon as their registration with PSIRA have been updated. This is AMAZING NEWS because for of the 10 famiies will be going into accommodation already employed. Image

Some of you might remember these pics from a year ago on my X feed as we asked you to help us help 5 families (10 adults and 12 children) in the Camps Bay, Houtbay and Hangberg areas. Image Well, a year later, all but one are back to pay their blessings forward.
Today, those we helped off the streets by negotiating and paying their first month's rent at a lodge in the CBD are all gainfully employed and accommodated in their own homes. Image

I can now divulge some of the details pertaining to the crisis that I posted about this morning.
You will remember the two young girls we rescued from a flat in Bellville and sent back home to Pretoria 2 weeks ago.
Out of the blue, we had a call from the social worker that our social worker had arranged to help the girls and their families adjust to their new reality. This was around 2pm yesterday afternoon. In her session with them yesterday morning they had apparently become emotional and hysterical and revealed that there are another two girls

In my four years as a columnist for the Cape Argus, I have been blessed to have had no censorship on what I wrote irrespective of who I might be upsetting - well except the one time. And that is because the editor felt it was in my own best interest as publishing that column Image might have endangered my life.
And so today, as news of Mark Lifman having been killed in what was obviously yet another hit on those involved in the high profile gangster case that is due in court again tomorrow, filters through (although with Mark, one can never be sure), Image

Good evening everyone. I have just returned from going past the various sites where the 16 individuals are currently sleeping on the streets. To say it's harsh, cold and very wet our there is putting it mildly. These 16 individuals were chosen to benefit from the rooms we negotiated for based on their vulnerability and their ability to remain sustainable post a first month hand up.
For R500 per individual,we can accommodate these individuals and assist them with grant applications and employment through our Trash 2 Cash programs
