NAMB's SEND Network president @vancepitman says the narrative that the SBC doesn't have transparency "100% BS."

Oh, really?

Let's walk through this video and see where the detectors go off. Pitman notes that NAMB has a full-time auditor on staff, reporting to the trustees. That’s good… and completely beside the point when it comes to transparency.

An auditor is a great accountability tool.

But it is not a transparency tool.

Pitman is distracting from the real issue here. It’s sleight of hand. “Look at the auditor!” While hiding the transparency issue under the table.

What @bartbarber says here is true, but it only tells part of the story.

Yes, I lost the vote to overrule the decision of the chair. That’s what you’ll find in the minutes.

But the realpolitik of the situation fills out the story. 1/ Rarely does the messenger body overrule the chair. That means, a motion can get referred to the EC & never see the light of day.

The reason I offered the '24 motion was because a similar motion I made in 2023 was referred to the EC, where it was killed in the finance committee.

It seems to me that the strongest argument the abolitionist Never-Trumpers have is some version of “we don’t trust in horses or chariots but in the name of the Lord our God.”

The question is not what is practical or prudent, but what is (in their minds) pure. So, you douse the altar with water (1 Kings 18). You give up the element of surprise and ascend to the enemy’s superior position (1 Sam 14).

The Lord saves.

I resonate with the position and respect it.

But I don’t find it compelling for the question of voting for Trump.

Christian Nationalists want Christian Faithfulness from Christian citizens.

The difference is what we want the state to do, which is to self-consciously acknowledge and obey Jesus as Lord, and for that obedience to be manifest in its law. As for what to do now, in addition to Christian Faithfulness, or as part of it, we need some Christians to organize for political action.

In politics, the most organized and committed minority wins. Why should we sit this game out and cede it to our enemies?

Why do we keep kids in worship? 🧵

Kids can be hard to wrangle in corporate worship. They make noise, squirm, need to go to the bathroom, need to be disciplined.

Wouldn’t it be easier on everybody just to do something special for the kids?

Sure, but that’s the wrong question Rarely does what’s easy and what best, fruitful, and wise align.

So, why do we keep kids in worship at our church?
