12 Life Lessons Learned From 10 Years Of Podcasting: applicable to all aspects of trying to grow, do something meaningful with positive impact over the long-haul.

Principles excerpted from my latest podcast (RRP 704).

A THREAD🧵... 1. Invest in Your Curiosity: if you're not honestly into it, it's not going to work that well. It won't translate for others, and it certainly isn't sustainable.

A THREAD about pursuing a dream and never giving up.

14 years ago my filmmaker friend Sacha Gervasi bled to give birth to his 1st documentary, “Anvil! The Story of Anvil”—a small, self-financed indie that was almost never seen by anybody.

Trailer: The film follows a heavy metal band that never quite made it, yet refuses to give up— part of a pact hatched by the lovable protagonists Lips and Robb Reiner when they were 14: to rock out forever. It’s a true-life can-you-f-ing-believe-this-is-actually-real ‘Spinal Tap’. 2/14

3 Key Lessons On Age & Fitness from a 55 year old athlete. THREAD 1/8:

1. Train Where You Are: it’s hard to resist comparing your current self to your fittest self. Overcoming this urge is key. When the pace clock or watch are no longer a tool but own you as an instrument of dread, it’s time to let it go (who cares anyway?). Accept your current state whatever that may be. Embrace reality as a foundation upon which to enthusiastically build. 2/8

Best thing about New Year’s Day is waking up stone cold sober. Extremely grateful to have not experienced a 1/1 hangover since ‘97. CLARITY is the jam. 1/8 OK but what if you did wake up (once again) mired in that horrible fog of dread and demoralization? Ask yourself: are you ready (this time) to finally give it up? (applicable question for any type of change, not just drugs/alcohol) 2/8

We tend to vastly overestimate what we can achieve in a year——and wildly under-estimate what we can accomplish in a decade.

THREAD. 1/12 Nobody’s success is overnight. Nobody’s success happens in a mere year. Nobody. 2/12

STOP HACKING YOUR LIFE. Here’s a hot take: doing anything well is fucking hard. Mastery? Only a rare few are willing to tolerate what that ordeal requires. THREAD. 1/9 If you have a passion—if you aspire to elevate your life—if you want to see what you are truly made of, or just how far you can go and what you are truly capable of, please dispense with short cuts. Forget the hack. 2/9

THREAD: It's not my birthday, but here are 5+3 things I've learned in 53 years: 1. Dreams aren’t built on breakthroughs but rather on certain tiny actions taken daily.

Waking up sober & hangover-free on New Year's Day is always a powerful reminder of the greatest gift I have ever given myself: sobriety. 1/ So if you're suffering, if you've had enough, if you're sick and tired of being sick and tired, here's the thing: you never have to drink or use again. EVER. 2/

Thanks for all the well wishes. We are safe. I have spoken with many friends who lost their homes. No credible intel yet on the status of ours. But I am confident of one thing: home isn't a place. It's a community of people you love. 1/ Losing everything material presents an opportunity. You can panic and wallow in fear. Or you can choose it as an opportunity to grow. Embrace the truth that everything is indeed impermanent. 2/
