With two more states offering their residents SMART Health Cards this week (welcome Illinois & Rhode Island!), I wanted to do a quick thread on what SMART Health Cards are, how to use them, and where to get them. Please RT! 🧵 Shortly after we launched our Digital Vaccine Record in California, @vishnuravi did a great write-up on what SMART Health Cards are, and how they work. It remains a great introduction to the concept: vishnuravi.medium.com/how-do-verifia…

Illinois is now issuing SMART Health Cards for vaccinated residents! idphportal.illinois.gov

That makes Illinois the 11th state in the US to issue SMART Health Cards - joining Colorado, Connecticut, California, Hawaii, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York, Utah, and Virginia. doh. ran out of space. Washington state is issuing as well. Really shouldn't tweet before finishing the second cup of coffee. 🙃

Been a while since I've done a round-up of news relating to the Digital Vaccine Record / SMART Health Cards space.

This time I've got some big news to share. Buckle up! 🧵 1/ 🍎 Huge congrats to @WADeptHealth, who today announced the launch of #WAVerify! Washington state is now the 10th state to launch a state-wide Digital Vaccine Record system based on SMART Health Cards.

But this one is special to me... doh.wa.gov/Newsroom/Artic…

Less than 2 months from first line of code to 1M Digital Vaccine Records delivered to California residents. So proud of my team.

When I joined the State, a lot of folks asked why state government can't move as quickly as the private sector. Guess what? It can, and does! 👇🏻 This blog post provides a bit more background on what the QR code is, and how it works. I'm going to pull out a few specifics in this thread, and add a few other details I think are worth calling attention to:

Launch day! I forgot how fun (and yes, stressful) these can be. 🧵 1/ Today, California became the first state in the country to launch an open source, standards-based digital vaccination record. Using the SMART Health Card framework, any resident who wants a digital copy of their vaccination record can get one at myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov.

HBOMax needs to upgrade their CDN We're an hour into #WW84 and we've buffered three times, all three times the picture has degraded from 4k to SD.

We have a gigabit connection from Xfinity, and have never once buffered during playback from Netflix

So we've been getting a lot more brushing shipments lately. In the last few weeks, I've received:

1/ While I'm under no illusions that Trump's transition to Joe Biden will be graceful, I'm inspired by each of the prior transitions that preceded 45's hand-off to 46. 2/ Here's the text of the letter that @BarackObama left for Donald Trump (source: cnn.com/2017/09/03/pol…)

Take a step back for a moment and admire the precision, the discipline, the confidence of the Biden team.

Not over till the votes are counted of course. But @jomalleydillon and her operation sure seem like a well-run ship right now, and that's giving me hope. Lots to admire:

- Biden's crisp, calm, brief speech last night
- no leaks from 'campaign officials' to on-air pundits throughout the evening
- forceful briefing this morning declaring what will happen over next 72 hours
- unequivocal rejection of Trump's lies

There it is. The President has just recklessly claimed a victory that he has absolutely not won.

Credit to MSNBC (anyone else?) for stepping in and calling him on the lie. But it's still an appalling new low for our country. These ballots reflect votes ALREADY CAST. Votes cast by American citizens. On time.

I worked at a restaurant in Northern Virginia summer of '95, the manager was @MaryMcDonnell10's brother. She came to the restaurant one night... And I was so star-struck I didn't even get to tell her how much I adored Sneakers. Correction: '94, not '95. Anyway, great lesson that I have never forgotten:

Mary's brother had me working as host. The restaurant was brand new, a family style Italian restaurant called That's Amore. In a strip mall, northern Virginia.

Wow. Just received an extraordinary email from @expensify CEO @dbarrett. I can't remember ever seeing anything even remotely close to it. I admire @dbarrett's courage to state unequivocally what he believes in, even in spite of the inevitably polarizing effect such an email is likely to have.

1/ TL;DR: this is my last week at GV. Over my 9 years there, I told just about everyone I interacted with that I had the best job in Silicon Valley. It was a privilege to be part of such an extraordinary team for so long. 2/ 15 years ago, I joined FeedBurner as one of their first employees; we were acquired by Google in '07 and I moved back to the Bay Area. I’ve been on the Google campus ever since: first as a BD lead, then as a product manager (Blogger, G+, YouTube), and in 2011 I joined GV.

I voted for @ewarren today. Of everyone in the race, she strikes me as the one candidate capable of bringing competence, curiosity, and an uncanny ability to explain the complexity behind our biggest challenges to the Oval Office.

To move forward, we'll need all of her talents. @ewarren It's become a joke to say that @ewarren has a plan for everything. But have you actually looked at her plans?

She's already assembled a team to do the hard work of thinking through the challenges facing the country:
