Thread 🧵 - recent Government announcements

Lots of local people have been asking me about recent Government announcements. I thought it would be helpful to set out my views. Since January, I have been calling on the Government to take radical action to help people and businesses cope with rising energy bills through this winter and buy us time to scale up our own energy production (both renewable and nuclear) to ensure our long-term energy security.

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day. An important moment to stop and reflect. Not just to remember the victims of humanity’s most despicable crime but also to learn the lessons of history so we are never forced to repeat them. In Parliament, I have marked this day by signing the Holocaust Educational Trust memorial book on behalf of the people of High Peak.

GLOSSOP LABOUR PARTY BYPASS U-TURN

I am very disappointed to report that Glossop Labour Party have just passed a motion opposing the Mottram Bypass & Glossop Spur Road. In a formal motion passed by Labour Party members, Glossop Labour have committed to “campaign vigorously” against the bypass and have even pledged to donate money towards professional lobbyists efforts to block the badly needed link road.

GOOD NEWS FOR TINTWISTLE, HADFIELD & GLOSSOP

I am pleased to report back to you on something I have been quietly working on for some time. THREAD 1/ Image Andy Burnham has proposed a clean air zone for Greater Manchester. This is due to come into effect next May & will see older HGVs, taxis & buses having to pay a charge to travel into GM if they do not meet clean air standards. The charges will not affect private cars.

It’s worth a quick recap of the events of today:

A constituent urges @JamesFrith to challenge anti-Semitism in the Labour Party.

@SJLSouthworth responds to declare the suggestion of Labour anti-semitism “total nonsense” and it doesn’t matter anyway as voters don’t care. This was then highlighted by myself and many others. Then a Labour member charges in to defend @SJLSouthworth as all this alleged anti-Semitism is because of the Israeli government and the “Jewish lobby”
