In the Bible, time does not exactly pass; it stacks.

As the fiery angel puts it in The Great Divorce, "This moment contains all moments." This is true of all moments, but especially, beautifully so in the Eucharist. More on how time stacks...

As moderns, we tend to picture time unfolding linearly from moment to moment, where the past is left behind and replaced by the forward march of the present. But in the Bible, time seems rather to stack on itself.

A few of my favorite "Lee-isms". 🧵

(Lee is the brilliant Chinese servant in East of Eden.) Feel free to add others if you have any!

"Now that you don't have don't have to be perfect, you can be good." "The problem with you occidentals is that you don't have devils to explain things with."

Pastors v. Priests 🧵(thinking out loud):

1/ "The occupations of butcher & baker are just as sacred as priest & pastor," is an argument that needs testing.

My immediate response: No.

But maybe that's b/c I think of ministers as priests, not just pastors. Hmmm. 2/ Yes, pastors can be narrow-minded & narcissistic like anyone else. But is there no continuity b/t ancient priests & modern pastors? Is there no *higher* calling? Is the goal to strip away all religious hierarchy until we fully realize the flattened modern individualist ideal?
