It was an eventful week! I received the call from the MacArthur Foundation the morning after a tense call with Princeton university officials investigating my support of students protesting the genocide in Gaza. I was scrolling through my inbox while coffee brewed, and I saw the subject line, “Time Sensitive & Confidential Conversation – URGENT” and about an hour later I was on the call receiving the amazing news. What would have been a moment of pure joy and excitement was tempered by the sense that the same institutions that are quick to celebrate our accomplishments have been slow to res...

On this 2-year anniversary of the Ida B. Wells Just Data Lab, I’m happy to share some of the work coming out of the #IdaLab. Before I do, lemme say: NONE of this would be possible w/o the digital stewardship of @CierraRobson, associate director extraordinaire! This semester one of the #IdaLab teams led by @PrincetonCITP emerging scholar, Kenia Hale, and rising @PrincetonAAS senior, Payton Croskey, focused on liberatory technologies.

Words are to be taken seriously. Words set things in motion. Words set up atmospheres, electrical fields, charges. I’ve felt them doing it. Words conjure. I try not to be careless about what I utter, write, sing. I’m careful about what I give voice to. —Toni Cade Bambara ImageImage Yes you do🖤 Image

Social solidarity not just social distancing includes holding one another’s disappointments & heartbreaks as if they were our own.💔 I get teary every time I think about all the cancelled graduations, esp for firstgen & non traditional students. We will have to find creative ways to honor & celebrate in the months ahead.
