In politics, the order of every day is to grip your strategic interests tight & keep your tactical positions as flexible as possible. Never let your views on form (how) get you sideways of your interests (what/why). Ie care about the substance, not form. With that filter, what should Mike Johnson do right now? 1/x
Mike Johnson should pass a FULL YEAR continuing resolution that triggers the current law across-the-board reductions that would CUT nondefense spending by $73 billion/9% cut. Defense would NOT be cut. 2/x

I like @RepThomasMassie and I have always respected him. Spent an hour and half with him at his request just last month in his office. But he is endemic of a particular type of congressman that has caused our complete failure for decades. 1/x
Thomas doesn't bear the weight of responsibility for history. He is a vote no-be content congressman who when given actual power to govern for the first time (due to the courage of others BTW) caved, fell for cosmetic versions of his own proposal & attacked his allies. 2/x

While we wait on text, let's take the numbers as the GOP is claiming w/o knowing the gimmicks (Dems are claiming higher spending). Deal provides $1.59 trillion in FY24 v. $1.602 in FY23. You gave Biden $4 trillion for $12 billion in cuts largely coming from unspent COVID$? 1/x
Or take "It cuts nondefense spending to 2022!" No it doesn't. FY22 nondefense spending was $689 billion. GOP numbers claim FY24 will be $704 billion. You don't get a dog biscuit for that. 2/x

Kevin McCarthy is in serious trouble as a candidate for Speaker. Let me explain. 🧵 1/x
It starts with the fundamentals. The vote for Speaker is not behind closed doors. It is on the floor of the House of Representatives. There is no lying back home about how one voted. And all Dems vote against the GOP nominee, always. 2x

I loved being @T4G this week. It encouraged my soul. The preaching is second to none, and the worship is a foretaste of heaven. I will miss the fellowship greatly in the years ahead. Seriously, it's awesome. 1/x
Since it was an undercurrent at this conference, I will say that the "together for the gospel' movement has led to an unhealthy imbalance & confusion in the church in how to stand against evil that will cause great dereliction in the years ahead for countless Christians. 2/x

The use of the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to stop the vax mandate, in this case where you don't have a GOP president, is designed to create a show vote and nothing more. It is not designed to stop the mandate. 1/x
The CRA is a useful process designed to stop bad regulations when the bureaucracy is over their skis or when the presidency has turned over so that the disapproving resolutions are signed into law. 2/x

Center for Renewing America @amrenewctr just released the following paper by @KenCuccinelli outlining how States can and should secure the border as the Biden Admin continues to fail in its duty. 1/x

"As commanders-in-chief of their National Guard, governors in border states should cite state war powers and activate and deploy all units to the southern border with specific orders to the commanding officers of the National Guard to detain and return illegal immigrants back..2x

In watching @realchrisrufo & @JoyAnnReid, Joy argued that CRT is just a theory taught in law schools. In the CRT theorists own words (Crenshaw et al), here is why she is wrong. Their concern is: "the central role of the American legal order played in the... 1/9 #StopCRT
